Took my truck in for an oil change, got home checked it.....one Qt low! Checked to see if they lubed the centering pin on the double cardan joint....they didn't!

No wonder people hate dealers!

For what they charge and if you can check it yourself, do it yourself, I am old and have donr mine since it was new, may take me a little longer, but at least I know its done right.

Yep, no one takes care of a truck like a truck's owner.
Sorry about the trip. That's pretty frustrating when the simple things aren't done properly by someone who should do the simple things properly.

Another plus of doing your own oil it gets a owner underneath the truck and look for other problems

After spilled coffee inside, oil all over the valve cover, new scratches here and there, kids driving it to the wash rack, a coolant leak they couldn't find but I did, now they are my last resort. I will do all my own work if I can, and the only reason I never used to was that my truck does not fit in my garage and I don't have a backup vehicle.

I worry that they don't pre-fill the filter, or use the correct oil (saw Jiffy Lube putting 10w40 in an 06 mega 3500 once). Have always done mine myself, very easy job.

The person doing the oil changes ANY place you take it is most likely the LEAST qualified individual working there.

As an example I had a very good friend who's son went to work at one of those jiffy lube places....3 days later HE was the manager supervising every one else. Pretty nice way to move up the ladder the problem is the week prior I was over trying to show his father how to replace the map sensor because the son knew NOTHING about cars....a week later he is running the place

Dealerships are the same way the new guys as a rule do the oil changes..

My youngest sister wrenches at a Dodge place. She graduated last summer with her Associates from a local tech/trade college (and getting her life pointed in the right direction and trying to be a squared away adult). As far as her work right now, she's low man on the totem pole until she gets more work experience and quals to move up. (And I am pulling for her to do so).

Considering where she comes from, she sure as heck better be doing things right. Back home, Dad keeps her busy on his trucks. I was poking at him that with his '99 CTD she gets a lot of practice over there.

I wish we had someone like her around here...our Dealerships have nothing but the dregs working there because all the good mechanics went to work elsewhere so they could make some money....

Dealerships are not set up to pay a good wage to the mechanics and it doesn't take long for them to figure that out...

That is true. Before she started she asked me for advice about a mech/tech career and dealership pay was one of the things we covered. I imagine it is only a matter of time before she'll make a move. But in the meantime I hope she learns & earns as much as she can so she has a good leaping off point for whatever move she makes after that. I just hope that a dealership treats her right and she doesn't get burned. Having worked at a dealership and knowing what I know, I figure it is a matter of time (and for her stability I hope a long time) before they cross her. I hope if it does come she is smart enough and has confidence enough to overcome it.

The best thing you can do is either work with the service manager and stand on him with your combat boots when needed, or find a dealer that has impeccable service.

This is exactly the situation I'm in ........ I use one strictly for fluid changes because it's cheaper for me to do it this way but I wouldn't trust them doing anything major on my trucks (they couldn't diagnose a bad steering gearbox from an alignment issue) and another dealer that when I need something done right I know it'll be done that way, but is too far for normal service.
