Day 3 new guy needs advice....

The oydessy began easy enough. Day 3 featured a water in fuel indicator. Pulled over and drained per manual. Engine began runnung rough and stalling, lots of smoke. Limped to a dealer 6 blks away. Found no water in fuel, ordered new filter sensor. Truck still smoked and ran rough. Stalled 3 times on freeway lots fo smoke no power. Pulled over drained filter again. Ran better last 10 miles. Light on whole time. Went to work truck stalled and died. Had towed to another dealer, water in fuel, gallons. Truck had 289 miles initial Dodge provided first fillup. Dealer drained fuel tank and changed filter. Selling dealer agreed to pickup tab. 30 miles with water in fuel after 1st dealer visit. Mechanic says nothing obvious in the way of damage. Got truck back this evening, seems to be running fine. Got lawyer yesterday to get another truck if the body feels or knows this is bad. Please help this new dodge owner, opinions and advice are welcome and thanks ahead of time for all the great posts.

Welcome to the site,
Sorry to hear about your experience. I know that had to be a huge BUMMER! > I don't know for sure, the kind of long-term damage this could cause,,,,,, but I'm not sure I would be comfortable not knowing. I do know the VP-44 injection pump on my 99 uses the diesel fuel it pumps to the injectors as a lubricant and a coolant. :
Maybe some of our members with more technical knowledge of the 03-04 trucks will chime in. I think if it was me,,,,,,,, and having spent the kind of money that these rigs cost,,,,,,,, I would tell the dealer who put the bad fuel in, to order me another truck and he can pick up the tab on any additional costs. Just my $.02

I CANT TELL YOU WHY THATS HAPPENING TO YOUR TRUCK, BUT READ THE LEMOM LAW BOOK THAT CAME WITH YOUR TRUCK, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP ALL YOUR SERVICE RECIEPTS,KEEP EYES N ALL YOUR FLUIDS, LISTEN FOR ANY ABNORMAL NOISES. IF THE PROBLEM IS GONE, KEEP AN EYE ON THE AREA WHERE YOU PARK FOR ANY LEAKS. IF YOU PARK ON THE GRASS OR A DARK SURFACE, PUT A LARGE PIECE OF CARDBOARD UNDER YOUR TRUCK.WHILE ITS RUNNING PUT YOUR EAR BY THE WHEELWELL AND LISTEN FOR ANY ABNORMAL KNOCKING, IF YOU HAVE ANYONE THAT CAN CAN HOLD THE BRAKES WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN DRIVE, THAT'LL PUT A LOAD ON IT. OIL PRESSURE SHOULD B STEADY AND IF YOU NOTICE ANY ROUGHNESS AT IDLE OR ACCELERATION TAKE IT IN. IF YOU PICK IT UP FROM THE DEALER AND IT ACTS FUNNY, DRIVE IT RIGHT BACK. AGAIN, READ THE LEMON LAW BOOK. GOOD LUCK !!

Hey Monster typing in caps is yelling. Please don't yell. My ears are bleeding.... :
Sucks to have a new truck with water in fuel. I would avoid the first dealer, and find a competent tech to work on it in the future. I'm sure it will be fine, if not you will know in a few thousand miles. Best of luck with the new truck.

Thanks so far anyone else had a lot of water in their system. Been driving a lot with fresh fuel to purge. The main problem I have is I wasn't used to the truck so I can't tell if my power is down. It feels like it, slightly. Going to drive a new one next week and compare it.
