Cummins vs. Duramax

My brother in law thinks the duramax is next to god in greatness. He is always giving me a rough time about owning a dodge cummins. Can someone please tell me what makes a cummins better than a duramax so I have some ammo next time he starts on me?

Does the same job with two less cylinders. Last longer, easier to rebuild when the time comes.

The durability and service lives of our engines far exceeds that of the lighter duramax. Ask him how many of his precious duramaxes they put in heavy trucks or how many people have a half a million miles on them in a pickup.
Also let him know that they are much weaker feeling when you pull a HEAVY trailer. My 04 dodge will out pull my 08 duramax that I drive for work once its at highway speed. Not much of a contest until the Tq. conv. locks though. just not enough gears in the 04 autos.

hook up to a loaded trailer and see who gets the better mileage or sit and watcg the highway or truck stop for hotshotters and see who uses what truck the most. ran a 07 duramax for 6 months. spent a 1/4 more on fuel

The Duramax is an Isuzu motor, I would rather have a cummins American motor.

I'm old skool... the more iron the better. Last I recalled them other boys had aluminum heads.

I like this saying:

"Cummins keeps it straight. Them other boys swing both ways..."

pick up any diesel mag. and start looking at the modified sled pullers.that should show him who the real big boys are.this really isnt even a debate any more, anyone in the know can see cummins dominate the high horsepower events

Just stay quite when he starts talking cr@p, then walk outside grad a big tow strap and say "lets hook them end to end" (make sure you just happen to have a couple tool boxes or something in the bed for weight)... Tell him to "put up or shut-up and bow down to the mighty cummins gods"...

If he does take the challenge, don't worry he'll break some front end parts before you even strain your cummins...

Hooking end to end really doesn't prove anything, but for some reason it makes people think one trucks better then the other... All it really means is one got better traction but it sure looks cool...

Also don't forget to remind him that there is a reason his GM was designed to have a tow truck on call at the push of a little blue button, but it seems like dodges get along just fine without them...

This is an old photo with Chevy (not Duramax) and an older Ford, but you get the idea. The newer Duramax and Ford (IH) diesels are still V-8 configuration and have less room, translating to smaller internals and the need to save weight and using aluminum for some parts. They do have the same angular rod connections now, but they are still smaller internals.

In-line 6 has bigger, heavier, parts in a tested and re-tested configuration.

Stock versus Stock the Cummins will outperform and outlast all others when under load. Cummins hasn't changed much in a long time. Chevrolet and Ford are constantly changing everything. That alone speaks volumes.

The weakest part of a Dodge/Cummins combination isn't the Cummins.

Now, I am biased so check around.

^^^^^ I like that one!!!

My brother-in law gave me a hard time about driving a Dodge but then the call came in Chevy Duramax broke down. I hauled his truck on my flatbed and hooked his trailer to the back of my flatbed for the 200 mile tow.

Just don't let your brother in law find out that Gale banks has the fastest diesel powered truck in the world and its powered by a Duramax, or you'll never hear the end.

Just tell him, "Sorry, I only talk to people whose engines have a life rating of over 225K miles."
