Cool Cummins and Mexican diesel

i drove my old F350 diesel in Mexico a lot with no side effects. Always found good clean fuel. While I was in a little Mexican town, I over heard a couple talking about their ordeal with their new Dodge Cummins. Seems the newer truck couldn't tolerate the sulfur in the fuel and the cat would send a code and the engine would quit, if I have the facts right, was late and beer was $1. Anyone heard of this? I now own a Cummins, I may want to drive down there again.

The only problems associated with the fuel types are with the 6.7 Cummins. You have an 05 with the 5.9. Nothing to worry about.

Like the others said, it will only be the 2007.5 and newer DPF equipped trucks that have the problem, and that is no matter what brand they are, unless the rough Mexican roads have already shaken the DPF off..........

I used to put mexican diesel in my 04.5 all the time when I lived in $an Diego. Only thing I did as a precaution was keep an extra fuel filter handy...which you shoud have with you anyway.

First thing I did was to put a remote Raccor fliter in line (F350 Nav), which I intend to do with this truck. They are amazing. We sailed Mexico for four years, we had a twin set on out sail boat which had a Perkins 50hp aux ( diesel) engine. One time I left the deck fuel fill open a hair, we had to power trying to make it north into big seas and water was washing down the deck, started to trickle water into the fuel tank, those filters collected water and crap until they were full. I ended up ruining the injector pump, but they got us into safe harbor. If I had not had them, the engine would have died and we would have had to sail down wind some 200 miles to Mazatlan, then try to get into the marina. Can't say enough about a water seperator filter.

My Cummins has be fed Mexican diesel for about 98% of it's life with zero obvious problems in over 100,000 miles. The CP3 died some time ago, but don't think I can blame that on the fuel. My fuel filters are always clean when I change them.

We found that in Mexico the fuel was super filtered. Way back boaters with diesels had problems with some out of the way places, so they came up with a complicated Baja filter system where you dumped your fuel in it first and it acted like a prefilter, but we in four years never had contaminated fuel from all the marina's or fuel stations we fueled at. I found more problems with U.S. stations. One being Morrow Bay marine Shell station. Got 90% water, in my outboard motor's tank. Left us stranded 1/4 mile off Santa Cruz Island in our 10ft inflatable, lucky no wind came up or we would have been swept to sea in a hurry.

None of the new trucks with DPF, Dodge, Ford, or Chevy don't like ULSD.

Well I could have figured that out with a few days and a few beers maybe.
Thanks!
