I was doing a fluid exchange on my truck and when i put the line back into the case it made a big crack the goes all the way down to where the tail end gasket is. I cant tell how long the crack goes because it almost seems like fluid is coming from the gasket area to where the tail bolts on. I am so ****** right now, i am not sure what happened if it was because its so cold out or i over tightened it but i need some opinions on what to do. Can this be welded or even trusted if i did that or should i just save up and buy a new trans like hts, georend or suncoast? I figured that would make more sense then just buying a new casing and doing all the work.

Yeah i know tons of work that is pointless haha i would have to pull the tail end off to see if cracked all the way thru and then hope it still wouldn't leak. If it did afterwords i would cry honestly...

I know it what swapping usually consists of ecu all the other stuff too.

here is a pic of it not running you can see the crack its near the one edge of the nut(thats not a crack in the tail piece its a casting mark but weird that its in the same spot lol)

I don't thin the crack is just right there i think it does beyond where the two casings meet.

100% overtighened the fitting and cracked the case. that tranny cooler line fitting is Female NPT. you canrun it in until the case splits. that looks exactly like what happened there. its a tappered thread you run it in too far and the fitting threadskeep getting larger and the case hole does not. something has to give. weakest link. you have to be very careful with aluminum case holes. seen it before. that case is NFG. better weight your options. a recase overhaul is a minimum. don't bother trying to fix its a waste of time. and will only ever be temporary. it'll leak again and again.

Good luck with the fix. I hope you are wrong and it's not to deep or long. However, with the fluid leaking, it looks like it went all the way through.

It can be welded. I would try to weld it first before dumping 3k to 6k on a new or rebuilt trans. You will probably need to seperate the the case from the tail though. That spot is not a high stress area so you should be fine there but if you have never welded aluminum have someone who knows what they are doing weld it. You will need to cut a groove in the crack and fill it with weld. Grind it down smooth then get some flat stock and weld that across the crack, betwwen the fitting and the tail piece, for strength.

My friends dad has welded cast aluminum intake manifolds for me before like you just described, the other problem is that i didn't mention yet is i put in a transgo shift kit and thats not working right i am getting alot of slipping going on when trying to move. Idk if its from the leak but i doubt it. I pretty much f'ed my trans all up you can say.
