CP3 Noise???

Ok I have had a previous thread about engine noise which you all said was normal and the other day I was listening to it and it just doesn't sound right. When I have the truck on stock settings it sounds fine just a slight noise but seems fine to me. I have no problems with the juice in any power level. But when I turn the bullydog on with the juice is when I get alot of noise that is hard to explain. It's like a somebody hitting a small hammer on my engine really fast. I was wondering if this could be my CP3 starving for fuel with the current mods and no fuel system. I don't think it can me to much timing or Duration since other ppl are running the same stack. What kind of noise will the Cp3 make if any at all. This noise is just really bugging the hell out of me and I know it is not a good noise. But it's only really noticable when both chips are on other wise it's not there. Didn't know if I should post this in performance or in here but I guess it will get answered. Please help!

The knocking sound I would guess would be one of your injectors running lean causing pre ignition. This may be an indication of a bad injector. May or may not have been amplified by the use of your programmers.

Does the knock speed up as you drive, slow down?
If you have a good dealership around you (whom is mod friendly and or have a real clue) have them do a road test with you using their scan tool. In particular have them run a injector kill test when you turn on the Bullydog. This will eliminate which cylinder the knock may be comming from.
I think that you should get it looked at. If it is covered under warrenty is another issue.
Good luck, hope I help steered you in a direction that can help. keep us posted as to the final verdict.

Cheers

I have the same ticking sound. I had it when I first got the truck,(59k miles) and it was a clamp on the injector line that was loose. It has come back now. What are the other symptoms of the injector running lean?

Injector running lean will start off sounding like slight knock,(if a spark plug wire is off a gas engine) progress to what sounds like a hammer hitting the side of the block which is very distinctive.
You may have hard starts, lots of white smoke if the temps are cold outside. Some black smoke on start up if it is warm out. Fuel milage will suffer. You will notice more then normal black smoke if it is bad also.

The funny thing is a lean running injector will usually run well once the truck is running and up to operating temps. Except it will hit it's sweet spot once in a while and bang away. Mine was at idle below 1000rpm's then around 50 km/hr at 1400-1500rpm.

Will the injector kill test reliably isolate the bad injector, and confirm if it needs to be replaced?

Will the injector finally just go out after awhile or what? The thing is it is not noticable when I have the juice turned on in any setting wheteher it is level 1 or level 5 the same noise somes from the engine but now if the bullydog is in any setting about tow economy that is when the noise is distintictive.

Eventually the injector will fail. How or why It will fail depends on what caused it to go bad.
What I am figureing is with your set up is ( I may be wrong) with the juice on it's settings things are still fine. The injector rail pressure is still with in tolerance of the injector operating parameters. The length of time the injecter solnoid is open still falls with in an acceptable limits for normal operation.
Once you turn your Bully Dog and Juice on, the rail pressure spikes and/ or the solnoid opens longer allowing to much fuel to enter into the cylinder. This is causing the knocking.
I doubt that you are having a problem with to little fuel to the CP3. I do think that you may have had a bad injector before hand that would have worked fine had the truck maintained stock. Now that you have introduced the more pressure and longer duration of injector opening you have amplified the problem.
The injector kill test will tell you what cylinder is bad. Once you kill the cylinder it eliminates the knocking noise.
You have to think is the noise really only their with the Juice and the Dog on together, or does it amplify when their both on together.

What intake do you have? If factory then I would be concerned about not enough air into the cylinders to let it breath properly.
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge and a Pyro? What are your readings if you do?

no fuel pressure gauge just a pyro but my pyro reads fine even with both chips on. I see a max of 1300. Now as for intake I can see something gonna on there I have stock intake with a very dirty filter. I think I have changed the filter on my truck once and it has 35000 miles on it. You think that may have something to relate to. also today I went out and did a test with the truck and the noise wasn't there I was very suprised. But then again it comes and goes every now and then. Seems to do it alot worse in cold weather. AS the temps warm up outside it is much better.
