Unhappy cp3 leak

Noticed some drips on the driveway. While lying on the ground, looking up at the backside of the injection pump, there is black nut screwed to a black stud on the back of the pump. It appears that this is where the leak is coming from. Not enough space to get a socket on there without taking off the ecm. Tried a wrench, but not much luck. Anyone familiar with these pumps?. Is there an internal gasket? It looks like it is weeping out of the stud threads. Time for the dealer? Thanks, John

You need to get a new pump. I was at a dealer and was told they have replaced a few pumps for that leak.

Thanks for the quick reply hoot. Dern it. A new pump would be a good thing though, if dealer can handle it.

Hey evan. They replaced the pump under warranty. Oddly enough they had one in stock. Its been about 15,000 miles since replacement with no more drips. Although I've read recently where some replacements have started to leak again. Mabye it's the cold weather causing it?

Royal Gate Dodge, at Manchester and Clarkson. Their tech seems pretty good. Treated me right so far.

Pump Fixed??

My dealer just tightened up the lines and said it was fixed. If it leaks again to just bring it in.

Mine is in the shop as we speak having another pump replaced. The first one was replaced at 11 months and appx 15K miles. It started leaking last winter but did so sporadically. The dealer wouldn't replace it unless they could physically see it leaking. I waited until it drips all over the driveway constantly, covers the front differential, sway bar and tie rod before I took it in. The dealer could clearly see it leaking and ordered the pump. I dropped it off this morning. Now if they just don't maul the truck like they did the last time the pump was replaced. In case anyone wants to know MSRP on the pump is $2250 and you can by it for $1750 from Dodge Parts .com. That's a good chunk of change to pay after the warranty is gone.

Mine goes in next week for second pump. Leaking at same spot. Cold weather gets the thing starting to leak and it's been really cold lately.

I agree with the cold weather making it leak. I have mentioned this in posts previously also.

Angry Leak AGAIN!

Did your CP3 make any noise when it was really cold and leaking? When it is below 0 and when my truck hits about 140 degrees my truck with surge and make noise for about 10 seconds or so. Sometimes it might do this up to 5 times before it warms up enough to quit. This usually when I am going about 60 or so down the highway.

The original pump was very noisey. It made a tapping-knocking type of noise. Temperature did not matter. It was always noisey. The second and third pump made no noises.

Well, I noticed a leak last night also, and from the symptoms described here, it seems I have the dreaded CP3 leak. It has been very cold lately.

I just dropped it at the dealer - we'll see what he says.
