CP3 ded dead

well mabye, 18,000 miles and its leaking.I guess i take some solice in the fact that all the big 3 now run this same pump. but i tell ya my 02 never gave me a lick of trouble in over 50,000 miles and it had the VP44! oh brother, a great step backwards. the truck runs fine, no ill affects other than some white smoke at startup when its real cold out.so can they put a 06 or 07 pump on it and r they better suited for ulsd(my guess as to why its leaking)? thx.

Try to check where the leak is coming from. I thought mine was leaking about 10k miles ago, but it turned out to be an injector line that was dripping down the rail down the cp3. Snugged up some of the fittings and no more leak. Use caution, don't do this while it's running. And they don't require that much torque either. Something like 25lb/ft.

The only ones that aren't leaking are the ones that haven't been checked!!!
I have had 4 CP3's on mine, all under warranty. Mods or no mods they leak.
The cold weather or combo of fuel and cold weather seam to make it happen. Dealer agreed that most leak or weap but people don't care or look! The latest one was installed in October 06. Guess what...... it's damp on the bottom now!!!!!!!!!!! I'm thinking of making some kind of diaper set up to just contain it??

When a CP3 is on its way out...Does it make any obvious noise that would make you think, "Yup, CP3 is going"...?

Had my original CP3 replaced this time last year with only 18,000 miles on the truck. One year later and 10,000 miles later, the new one is still good (knock wood).

Petty sure mine is leakin as well unless a line is leakin above it like trik said but I cant feel it in the way it drives and it seems normal so I am not goin to concern myself with it if that makes you feel any better. It is simply not worth my time to drive an hour to my dealer to get a new on BUT if I lived in town or a dealer was close by I may get it changed then.

I got a 2003 3500 with a dead cp3, it made a little whine as it ground to a stop 1 block from home as I was starting on a 400 mile trip. It would make a whining sound from the transfer pump when I turned the key on for about 30 seconds, but would not start. I put a aftermarket transfer pump in the line with no dif. I deduced that the injector pump(hydralic pump) was the culprit and called the tow truck to haul to dealer, That part is under warrantee. The dealer tells me they are on national backorder and the 1st possible one will be 1/29/07 Has any one had this unfortunate experience,it sounds wide spread.

if you buy that 03 and it has a leaking pump get them to knock around $1200.00 off thats about the price of a reman. pump from cummins,if it's leaking at the same spot as most others tightening the lines is not gonna help.
