Coolant all over the ground

Need help and suggestions. Just finished a 1100 mile trip my home in FL
to Delton, MI. Filled up with fuel before heading to the farm. Pulled into the driveway. Turned off engine, to unload luggage and noticed steam under the hood. Opened the hood and anti-freeze on the engine, mostly on the dirvers
side. Of course ground was very wet.

I have not looked at yet. Any suggestions? Thermostat? Radiator hose, upper or lower? and the two dreded ones radiator or water pump?

Would love it to be a stuck thermostat. I have a new one with me and will replace that first.

Thanks.

Water pump will leak on pass. side. Lower radiator hose as well. Hopefully something as simple as a split upper hose. My idler pulley rubbed my upper hose (it was soft and swelled under pressure) and cut a slice in it causing antifreeze to go everywhere!!!! What were your temps like? Did the truck get hot?

Put in the new thermostat, and 3 gallons of distilled water to check for leaks, water running out at the bottome of the harmonic balancer. Looks like a water pump to me. Time to get it towed to the dealer.
Thanks for your help and response.

Truck never got hot. Stopped the vehicle and cooling system just dumped to the ground. Seemed like the thermostat was stuck closed also and they may have blown the water pump seal.

Guess it is best to head to the dealer in plainwell, MI. Am sure this will be expensive, did not bring my complete tool kit with me or I would do it myself. Oh well.

buy the tools you need, cheaper than what the dealer will want by far

Dealer will probably charge about $600 total for the job.

It was the water pump. Put in a couple of gallons of distilled water and it was pouring out. Had it towed to the dealer. Seems like a good price, but will wait for the final bill. You know with the price of anti-freeze alone is expensive, geo-5. Will let you know thanks for the feedback, all of you.

I just changed out my second water pump in less than a year! I almost overheated after I got home from my 3,200 mile vacation. I noticed it was running a bit hot only when I was towing at about 210 to 215 degrees. I didn't do a complete flush the first time but did this time so I'm hoping the new pump will last a very long time. I did notice after I changed it out the first time I got a 3 mile per gallon boost improvement though! I'm getting 15 mpg in the city hand calculated.

A Cummins brand h2o pump is about $150.....I got a Gates brand from Genos for under $50 and it's been great so far. The only tools needed are a breaker bar to remove the belt from the pulley and 8 or 10mm socket on a 1/4" ratchet. No way in hell I'd pay dealer price unless I was stuck in the middle of the Sahara desert.

Also you might want to move the fan cover a bit out of the way to make it easier to use the breaker bar and to remove the pump from above. I got my pump from NAPA for about same price minus the shipping.
