Sorry if I m posting this in the wrong place, tried to figure out the best place. Hello out there. I'm new to the thread, and have recently purchased an 05 3500 dually with 50000 miles on it. This truck appears to have been lightly used and never towed anything. At 72 mph I start to hear a whine/buzzing noise that continues until it "shuts off" which cause a slight surge and a sound of maybe a fan kicking on or something. I don't think the transmission has ever been serviced. Should I start with a transmission service. Thank you in advance with any advice and for having such a helpful forum!! Trey Sherman-SC

Thanks

I am having problem removing warped exhaust manifold on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 dually with 5.9 Cummins. The coolant line running under manifold blockes 1 bolt. Do I have to remove the coolant line or is there an easier way?

The coolant line bracket is a total pain.
The easiest way is to cut it off to remove the exhaust manifold.
Cut it about 2" from the exhaust manifold.

When you go to put that bracket back on some guys then weld it back together but then you are in the same situation as before.

What I did was to drill the bracket, add a small piece of metal to reinforce it and then bolted it together.
This way I can unbolt and re-assemble it easily the next time with no cutting.

I read about 100 pages of threads, and ran out of stream to go back further then that. Any repairs that are posted up as a helpful and kindly intended Thread needs as many pics as can be offered to help those who are first timers in their repairs. Also a step by step explanation is very helpful too. There are real good examples here but there are also some that are fairly vague. No disrespect intended.

One really should make their FIRST purchase the OEM Service Manual as it has all the diagrams and info you need to fix your truck

Greetings Lary Ellis Your suggestion is very helpful. When I went about trying to get a manual - the only thing I readily found at the time was a HAYNES Repair Manual for Dodge Pick-ups 2002 thru 2008 Full size models. It's ok but is limited in what it provides. I suppose if one works on these trucks all the time it likely serves as something to refer to.

I'm sure you have something more substantial in mind. Appreciate your suggestion tho...!

Top is correct! The OEM service manual is the best tool to have on hand when attempting to diagnose and repair our vehicles.

The Haynes and Chiltons manuals are rubbish in comparison to the OEM manual. If you want step by step diagnostic and repair procedures, the OEM is the one to have

A word of caution with the Ball Joints with the grease nipples. Install the grease nipples before complete assembly on your truck or you may not be able to access them for greasing after the fact.

I was talking about the OEM (Original Equipment Manual) available in multiple places online...best investment you will make on your truck

Now that I know what year truck you have I did a quick search on Google and found this Service Manual download for your truck for only $4.99

I do not know if this particular download is any good I am simply posting it as an example of how easy it is to find the information you need

Don't need to remove valve body to drain and additional 6 quarts. Just loosen the hex head bolts about 2-3 turns holding the VB to trans case. Sit back and watch it drain.

That will require you to have 10 qts available to fill'r to low mark on dipstick.
