Cold Weather Mode - Remote Starter
Cold Weather Mode - Remote Starter
I just got a Car Starter installed on my 07 "C" Machine, but I am thinking that using its cold weather mode is not the greatest for my engine. It will start up and run for 8min every 3hrs just to keep things moving.
Diesels don't like this much...? Am I right here?

One thing for sure is it will never really warm up, I would leave this feature off. Does you unit sense the grid heater or is it simply one of those dumb timed devices, you may have issues with that. I bought one for my 06 and when I saw all the systems that needed to be modified or spliced for installation I decided to return it. When something goes wrong these multiplexed vehicles, they will leave you stranded!
no, it has a "Glow Plug" input and does not turn the vehicle over until voltage to the heater grid is 0VAC.
I truly cannot see this doing anything but damage to the engine. Keeping her plugged in during cold snaps is far better IMO.
Thanks for the reply.

I have had a remote starting system on my last 2 Ferds and one in my CTD, I have never used the cold start feature and don't think I ever would. If I know it will be colder then 0 I will just plug it in.
i have a polar 4450 for my 2004.5 ram diesel. It sucks crap. Its been to dealer 2 times so far where i got it installed. It works when truck is warm and in summer/fall. but when its cold outside it attempts to start and then NOTHING. then it tells my 2 way remote that truck is started and its not. any1 else experience this?
The problem with that polar start unit is in the bypass module or the way the installer bypassed some of the factory security issues. Your truck will need a 180ohm thru ground to the mux wire to do the cold weather start.
