This morning on the way to work traffic slowed on the freeway and went to engage the clutch and it was a rock. Pulled over to the shoulder for a second and everything was fine the rest of the way. Anyone run into to this?

 

My guess is the clutch stuck to the flywheel from slipping (overheated).

What would cause it to overheat driving 60mph for 20min. than trying to downshift?

 

This has happened to me several times. I think it has something to do with the self-adjustment ramps on the pressure plate. Unnerving when it happens. Dump it and get a South Bend Con OFE and the upgraded hydraulics before it causes a collision. Chrysler should have issued a recall on this---but they haven't.

 

I took the tuner off (Predator) and drove down to the Oregon coast Thursday night and just returned tonight with no problems. The tuner was on Extreme level which is for mileage. My Mega Cab i run this tune 24/7 but this truck it was the first time and that was when the clutch acted up. Doesn't make any sense to me?

 

The Dual Mass flywheel and the goofy clutch it takes doesn't make sense to me...As I stated earlier I have experienced a non-release situation numerous times; the pedal goes rock-hard and after a few "pops" to the pedal it's fine for a few weeks. I suspect burrs on the self-adjuster ramps on the pressure plate. Read the instructions on reinstalling the pressure plate; the whole shootin' match sounds like a third-grade science project.

 

had the same problem on my 07. so you are saying that you had the pred on when all of this started happening with your clutch.. sounds like the clutch is welding to the flywheel to me

 

The G56 DMF clutch can't very much power over stock. Above 60hp is asking for slipping, and running 37" tires isn't helping either.

Look at the clutch master cylinder. See that silver can? Check valve. Replace with South Bend Hydraulics Upgrade. The Dual Mass Flywheel allows more movement between the engine and transmission. Helps eliminate vibration and chatter. The movement allows the clutch to put pressure on the throwout bearing, slave cylinder, check valve. This causes the pedal to be rock solid. Anyone who has turned up a manual, eventually has this happen. Have to pull over and wait till it bleeds off. You can try to pump the pedal, but it doesn't seem to speed anything up.

Call Southbend and ask them about an intermittent solid clutch pedal. You'll get the same answer. Look at the hydraulics picture and you won't see the little silver can.

The clutch is NOT welding to the flywheel.

I researched this very problem for a week before installing a ConOFE and hydraulics.
