clunk in brand new CTD??? Normal?
clunk in brand new CTD??? Normal?
I have an '05 ram 2500 CTD 4x4 automatic. My question is, is it normal when accelerating from a stop, or really slow, to around 10mph, and if I let off the gas, I feel a clunk, like it shifts really hard, but this is only when I let off the gas, and it only happens at speeds around 5-10 mph.
Also, one other nonrelated question, does anyone els'es hitch fit just a tad loose in the reciever and clunk when hitting bumps? What did you do to shut it up?!?

My trans does that too. It's still shifting into second gear even though you let off the accelerator pedal. Kind of like you passed the point of no return for shifting and when you lift your foot the trans says "Now what am I supposed to do?" Get used to it if you sit in stop and go traffic. I have had that problem with every vehicle I've owned from Mustang GTs and Trans-ams, to Ford trucks and Chevy trucks. You will learn to drive your truck so that it doesn't do it all the time......
As far as your hitch, something is wrong there. Are you sure you don't have a class II or III reciever in your Class IV hitch? I saw a dually running around a couple months ago like that.

Do you have the correct size hitch pin? They make a 1/2" and 5/8" hitch pin (the pin that slides through the hitch and reciever).
If you don't tow that much you could remove the receiver when not in use.
You could buy a new receiver.
You could weld a couple beads on the sides of the receiver and then grind them down until the receiver fits just right.

plastic shim between the draw bar and the hitch will eleminate the clunking noise [my pop pressed in a SS shim into his trucks reciever and now that draw bar will not come out ever without torch...]
some silicon sealent spread thinly around the draw bar and set to dry then installed will also cushion the clunking.
that is normal to me. i see no problem with it [the 2" od and 2" id fit of the parts isn't a very precice one. there is allowed like 0.050" play up/down and left/right...]

thanks nickleinonen! I think I'll try that silicon sealent first. And for you others, YES, it's the correct type of hitch and it's the correct size pin. The gap is very tiny, it's just that I have a big, heavy military style hitch with the big top folding piece as well as the ball. It's big, and it's actually saved my rear bumper on my old truck twice when rearended!

Mine has done it since day one
