Angry Chrysler terminates Getrag deal maybe end of Dodge Ram???

TIPTON, Ind. - German manufacturer Getrag is without a primary customer for the transmissions it expected to make at a new factory in Tipton.

Chrysler LLC terminated a financing options agreement with Getrag over the weekend, the company said. Indiana economic development officials hope Getrag can find a new customer soon for dual-clutch transmissions that were to be made at the $530 million factory.

The failure of the joint venture has left Chrysler without its U.S. source of fuel-efficient transmissions. The Tipton plant was expected to produce up to 700,000 transmissions a year. And it comes just weeks after Chrysler sued Getrag, alleging that it misrepresented its ability to secure financing to build the Tipton plant.
Chrysler may be GONE by the end of next week guys...

Does this just mean Chrysler cancelled plans to run a dual-clutch automatic?

Too bad... If that dual clutch auto lived up to the hype, it could have been an auto as efficient as a manual.

The GM/Chrysler merger talks are back on. If GM takes over, you can say goodbye to everything but the Jeep namebrand and the minivan. GM will liquidate everything else.

If gm and dodge merge, we could all be driving duraturds for our next vehicle... why don't they just let gm go, file chapter 11, reorganize and come up with a vehicle the public wants... instead of sucking everything else down with that sinking ship?

Man, what a way to start Monday morning!

Wondering how the cummins deal will work out. I could see them going ape . Is that a breach of contract if they dont use their engines anymore. Wonder how many years they have for a contract? So much for cummins emissions credits.

I Daresent say it, but...

More likely Furd will scoop up the Big C as an option in their trucks (since they've wanted to for years, and have offered it in their MD trucks).

All I can say is that I switched from about 40 years of Ford truck ownership to Dodge BECAUSE I wanted a Cummins in a 1-ton, IF Ford were to pick up the Cummins engine I probably would go back to Ford for my next 1-ton truck.

I had been considering moving up a cab size to get the Cummins in a Ford anyway. It would sweeten the deal on another Ford in my driveway.

I have NO complaints regarding my 2006 Dodge, would buy another one if they continued making them. This economy being what it is, I planned on keeping my truck a while, may now have longer 'keeping' plans because I do like the truck and it is doing an excellent job for my needs.

I read today that GM will scrap the Chrysler/Dodge factories. The end is near for our beloved trucks. Shoot, maybe these will be collectors items one day .

Didn't chevy sell the allison brand.
I want to build a ford cummins now anyway. I would never buy gm truck. Not an option for me. Ford would be my only option.
Hope it doesn't happen, but I think something big will happen.

IF this happens, what will become of the existing warranties on our vehicles? Any ideas?

Yes they did, but retained the design and rights to the Allison 1000 series they use behind the Dmax. Its built at a GM plant.

So much for that lifetime warranty, but really unless they went BK the warranty would stand with the new owner.
