Changing transmission oil

I recently changed my 6 speed transmission oil to amsoil Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid. Now i had someone tell me the other day that i shouldnt have changed it and if i did anyway i should only use dodge transmission oil now the amsoil stuff is recommended for the nv5600. Im just wondering if the guy i talked to didnt know what he was talking about or if i really shouldnt have changed the fluid. Im not trying to figure out if amsoil is bad as the rest of my fluids are bad and the guy i talked to also stated he has nothing against amsoil he simply said he heard dodge recommends nothing other then their transmission fluid.
Thanks in advance

There's nothing wrong with changing the oil in your tranny; I've done it twice now in mine. The NV5600 is advertised as a lifetime fill transmission - you never have to change the oil in it. My truck was getting tough to shift around 15k miles, so when I did the differentials, I did the transmission too. It made a world of difference in the shifting quality.

I used Amsoil the first time I changed it out and Redline MTL the second. Amsoil will go in the next time I change it out.

Dodge dealers usually only recommend their "brand" of oil to help their profit margin.

I wouldn't lose any sleep about changing the oil in it.

I didn't get your comment about the rest of the fluids being "bad".

I wonder if the guy was referring to the auto tranny? It's pretty difficult (if not impossible) to find a replacement for ATF+4.

Stick with the Amsoil. The factory fill for the NV5600 is non synthetic. I'm running Amsoil MTF and it's much better than the factory swill.

He mentioned a "6 speed" in the first post. Why is it almost impossible in finding ATF+4 fluid? I've had it delivered to my door twice now, took less than a week shipping time. Mobil1 ATF and Amsoil ATF come to mind pretty quickly - they can be purchased locally in many places.

I do not know if amsoil is API approved or not. If it is not API approved DC could void your warranty. I know DC will investigate big ticket items and will void warranty, been there done that, although it wasn't oil related.

I just ordered some Royal Purple Synchromax to change mine out. I used Royal purple in my differentials in the 01 and i Tow heavy with it and have not had any problems with it so thought i would use it in the 03. I used the *80-140 in the differentials in the 01 but i read not supposed to use that heavy in the 3rd gen American Axle (i think thats what they are)

DC now approves using 80-140 (heavier synthetic oil) if your doing heavy towing in the third gen trucks.

Herb,
Royal Purple Synchromax is a little to light for the NV5600. The recommended fluid for the NV5600 is a 5w-30 transmission fluid. Pennzoil Synchromesh, Redline MTL and Amsoil MTF meets the spec for the NV5600.
