Changing Tranny Oil???
I just made the switch to AMSOIL Syn. threw everything. Engine, Tranny and Rear diff. But i was searching the forums yesterday and found out that the tranny actually hold about 19qts. i only put 5qts in yesterday after i droped the pan and changed the filter. Should i drain the tranny completely dry and replaced all 19qts or just keep it the way it is right now???
Also, my magnet has a lot of metal on it. Nothing big at all, just really fine metal (a paste type) but it was about 1/4" thick on the magnet. I figure this is norm, but just want to make sure.

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
I don't run an auto but have had them in the past. The 19qts is probably from completely empty to full. This includes the Torque converter which holds a big portion of the 19qts and you can not get that out by just dropping the pan. After filling the tranny back up (5qts) what did the dipstick show? I could be wrong but it seems that would not be enough.
I'm sure someone will chime in with a little more info.

The dipstick read just where its suppose to be, after i ran the truck to operating temp and putting the engine in forward then reverse and then keeping it in neutral. It is where its suppose to be.

You will need to have a transmission flush machine hooked up to a transmission line to get all the fluid exchanged. If you want to keep Amsoil in it, take 20 qts to a garage and ask them to put your fluid in. I would keep one type of fluid in the truck and not mix it if possible.
