changing diff oil

How often do most of you change this oil. Is it really necessary to follow the manual or can you go 40k without changing it.

I run Amsoil and I guarentee you can go further but I am keeping to the 15,000 intervals until my warranty runs out. Chrysler just needs an excuse not to cover you...

Although if you don't tow I'd bet the world wouldn't end if you waited for 40k, personally I do mine on the 15k schedule so there won't be any questions, warranty wise...

Once the warranty is up, though, I might bump to 30k. It's a quick and easy job with the reuseable gasket, but synthetic fluid is kind of pricy.

Find a tractor supply or Rural king and buy the 2 gallon or 5 gallon jugs of Harvest King Gear oil.
They have 80w90 or 85w140 and its only about $36 for 5 gallons!

You can afford to change your front and rears whenever you want and not worry about it breaking the bank.

The stuff works good too! I use it in my sledpuller and my tow rig (tow's 15k lbs).

Buy a quality brand that comes in the bottles with the applicator on top- makes it easier to dispense the oil into the diff. No mess when filling , no fooling around. Just cut the tip and away you go!

Recently changed to Mag Hy-Tec cover and 75W140 Valvoline Synthetic( 8 quarts with the new cover!) Going to run it to 20,000 and check it. If all looks good, I will go to 30,000 intervals.

I've only changed my rear dif at 50k with 75-140 full synthetic Wally World brand and never had a problem out of my 05 with 204k on it.

I have an 89 Dodge gasser with almost 200K miles, to my knowledge the diff fluid has never been changed. It was my dads truck since new, and I bought it from him at 137K miles. I know it has not been changed since I have owned the truck. It is hard to remember to do stuff like that when it gets used for less than 1000 miles per year. I use to haul hay and go to the dump, and that is about it.

Hhhhmmm, I guess I should change the diff oil in it. . .

On another note, I will be changing the diff oil in my 06 CTD next week. 16K miles.
