changing crank seal today I hope.

I have all the parts, but reading this thread:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...o-t268692.html

I don't have the seal installer tool (to hammer it into the cover) or the fan wrench. Everything else looks like I can deal with it.

Any one know if I can improvise? If I have to machine a seal installer, I have a lathe, could make one in a few minutes if I know how big. I assume I can figure out how big it needs to be from the seal and the clearance in the housing?

Also, is the MoparŽ Stud & Bearing Mount really necessary, or is there a generic alternative?

I should be getting into this in about 4 hours if I can reassure myself I can get or make everything I need.

Thanks, Chris.

I'm not going to be much help but at least it sounds like you have machining and wrench turning skills so you should be fine. Does the truck have to be ready for tomorrow? If so, I would wait until I had a few days of down time for those "Oh Crap" moments!! Because that always seems to be my luck on this type of project.

I'm holding off til next week, it got to be too late yesterday. I did figure out that I can use medium locktite on the OD of the seal, and I think I can press in the new one one way or another. I'll update this after I finish.

It should be pretty easy to find something to press in the seal with. I always save old bearing races for stuff like that.
