amsoil atf+4 will suffice. whenever transmission flushes come up around here- it seems to be a 50-50 split around here. some guys swear by them-other guys like to do the drain and refill at every oil change. myself, i have mine flushed every 30,000 miles at the dealer-that is the only service i have the dealer do! for 189.00 bucks-it is a small price to pay. plus- if you are going to do the drain and refill on a regular basis- it will get messy- since the oem pan does not have a drain plug!!! at my last tranny flush- i had the dealer install a pml tranny pan i had bought- holds two extra quarts and has a drain plug!

Xw on RJM's post. I just did a pan-drop and refill. I think these 48re transmissions hold like 18qts. (don't quote me on that). Anyway, you will only get about 6 or 7 quarts on the dump and fill, which is about 1/3 of the transmissions fluid capacity. My situation is that I bought the truck used and have absolutely no maintenance history on it, so I am opting to do drop and fills. I have a flip hitch installed inside an already scratched to hell bed which tells me that this truck has been pulled with, and transmissions will form glazes and such inside the internals which might be disrupted by a flush. (so I've read) I had always done drop and fills on my other trucks with no transmission problems in the past, so I will continue doing this to my current truck. This is purely my opinion and I am definitely not an expert on transmissions. I am going to put on a larger tranny pan WITH a drain plug so that I don't have to keep dropping pans in the future. There is alot of back and forth on the flush or drop subject, and it is a touchy one. In my opinion, you should weigh the info and history you have on your particular truck to make that decision. There is alot of excellent info. and experience from many more people on the forums. Good luck!

Amsoil is excellent stuff. I am going to change all my fluids over soon. I am doing some testing with my trans fluid right now which is just Mopar ATF+4 from Wal-donesia mart which cost much less than the ***********. You can't go wrong with Amsoil synthetics though!

I changed the fluid myself @ 120k. I bought the truck used, so I don't know it's history. I did the diy drop pan and flush, used the Wal-mart brand ATF+4 and used a Mopar filter. Since then, I have pulled a 13k lbs trailer a few times this year, about 3000 miles and put a total of 13k miles on the truck. No problems.

I have Amsoil AFT in my 06 right now, I did a drop and fill and the Amsoil ATF has not cause any problems being mixed with the factory ATF.

Amsoil is prtty good about making most of their stuff compatible with other stuff. Amsoil ATF (what i use) is excellent stuff. Mopar ATF+4 & Amsoil are both synthetic and compatible with one another.

Mopar atf and Amsoil are compatable but I HATE mixing fliuds and when I use a syn.like Amsoil thats ALL I want in my trans. Its a TRANS FLIUD exchange most dealers do.Not a FLUSH.Best thing to happen to a auto trans since its invention.Been using it for years in my vehicles with auto transmissions.

Here are a couple different links I have on a DIY tranny flush that might be helpful:

Trans flush is OK if a pan drop and filter are done after. Flush tends to break sediments loose which end up in pan and filter. Have done many rebuilds on many makes within day or two of a flush. Whichever you prefer, it is important to keep the filter clean as well as fresh fluid. Amsoil is a good fluid, I have some stories where Amsoil prevented meltdowns.

inarush, I wasent suggesting a normal flush all the crap through the tranny system flush, the way thats in those two post has you disconnect the return valve and pump clean fluid through the system, the old fluid never touches the filter.
