Question Changing 6-speed fluid and X-fer case

I'm going to change out the fluid on the tranny and x-fer case. I have the tools, fluids, specs. My question is did you have to use thread locker or RTV sealant on the bottom bolt of the PTO cover? I know you only have to undo that one bolt to allow the tranny fluid to drain but will a leak result if I don't use a sealant on the re-install. Also, any good to know info on the x-fer case. I did the diffs and found out the hardd way that I should have used, and finally did, some locktite on the bolts. Thanks.

I haven't used any locktite on the xfer case drains, or rtv on the PTO bolt - twice each. No prob's/leaks.

Maybe I did it the easy way?

How do you go about getting fluid back in the tranny? I did a "filling test run" before removing all the fluid and there seems to be no easy way to get a funnel up in the fill port once the plug is removed.

A $10 hand pump from Pep Boys (or any other parts store).

i used one of them screw on adapters with a hose on the oil bottle... get as much in with gravity, the squeeze the snot out of the bottle to get as much out of each bottle until it runs out the hole..

The Mobil 1 gear oil comes in bottles with spouts, and the spouts seems to fit other bottles. When I changed both axles, the xfer case, and tranny fluids I used only 1 spout for each type of fluid, if the other botles didn't come with one. I have a few left for other chores, topping off etc. I found that there was plenty of space under truck to pour from the bottles.

Once you're under the truck it's being a kid again inside your fort :^)
