42k and I lost a U joint

Trucks been doing great until a week ago when the sun was shining and the windows down when what do I hear as I push through the gears?? Yup that is definitly a u joint squeeking. I like to play off road every now and again so I wasn't to suprised, but the real shocker came when I called the local off road shop for some replacement HD greasable Spicers and I was informed that they have not yet been release for the 03 and up trucks. This was quite a let down because I new I was going to have to call the dealer. Heres the real heart breaker $124 per joint. I pomptly asked is it covered under the 7-70 and to my suprise the answer was yes. The down side is that I have to pay the deductable on the worthless DC joints that they use on these trucks. You can bet when spicer releases their version I will be the first one at the counter. Anyone else had any problems with their u joints?

Heck buy the Napa joint, take it in with truck, have them(dealer)install it and have them give you the new D.C.joint if a spare needed or? See if service manager will auth.the Napa joint (he can if he wants to) for obvious reasons.Good excuse for him would be truck is DOWN and WE don't have a joint in stock(hopefully theydon't)and in quest of CUSTOMER satisfaction we out souced it cause its his WORK truck.(Reps always sign off on that kinda stuff)Usually theres more then one way to skin a cat if you know how to play the game(the PEN can be mighty)Usually worst case is THEY tell HIM not to do it again or make a big habit of it.(Reps play the game also. They usually know the score)Heck he could send the whole shaft to a driveline shop for JOINTS and write it up as shaft somewhat dinged they did a repair they would stand by and saved D.C. the COST of a new shaft! Lots of ways to climb the same hill.I use to all the time.

I have a 03 4x4 and just had my drive shaft, and all u joints replaced at the deal (*******) last week. Said my balancers came off the drive shaft, and cause the u joints to go bad. I also had the hub bearings replaced for the second time. The dealer also told me my ball joints were bad. I opted not to have them done there, and went to a national shop where they replaced my ball joints, and did a complete brake job all around for less than ball joint's only at the ***********. They also offer a lifetime warranty on the ball joints! The shaft and u joints were covered under the 7/70.

Try the Spicer 351. You'll need to do some minimal filing to the yoke but people claim it works.
