carrier bearing between the rear driveshafts

Anyone replace the bearing?
Where you get it and what was the cost?
Time frame and tools or info on how hard it is to do?

The new 1 pc shaft is out for me, I don't want to spend 500 or more and need to rework a new shaft to make it work.
If they ever recall it or people start having problems then you are just out money.

What I have has worked and the rubber is toast on the bearing.

 

Acording to the dealer, it is not replacable, the rubber was torn on mine and they put all new drivelines in under warranty

 

Did mine last week. It is very easy to remove the drive-line don't forget to mark the location of the u-joint on the rear end. You might also want a drain pan under the transfer-case output seal. I took mine to Six States Distributors Inc. Bearing cost $52 and labor for install was $25. $77 sure beats the cost of a new one piece drive-line or getting the $250 bearing from Dodge. 6 States part # is GM 40021334, it looks identical to the original.

Make me think about one other thing with it being a GM part number....

In the old days GM did theirs with out the hollow rubber and it was a lot stiffer, no movement, and lasted.

Anyone make a better part for it?
One that is stiffer and will last longer?

 

I searched for awhile and finally gave up on a heavier one. I found an old thread on another forum with part #'s that superseded to new ones that of course weren't easily found. I would guess if you had the diameter of the shaft and the bolt pattern etc. a good parts guy at a truck shop could come up with something better.
