It's the programmer/program from Cummins... friend has it cuz he's an OEM and offered to turn on my high idle. We didn't know if it was possible, or if dodge-cummins was DRB only.

yes, you can use it. The newest version " INSITE 5" with the latest software revision works on the CAN bus. It can change parameters but most read parameters. This is what I was told on the phone the other day when talking to Cummins. Insite_Brochure
The cost is $750 for the kit. Not bad considering a Starscan mobile is $2500 !!

I work at a full service Cummins dealer and I have tried using Insite to read my truck. I used the Inline 5 and Inline II adapters and could not get it to connect. I called Rapidserve and talked to a tech there and they told me the ECM is a cummins p/n but has Chrysler software in it. This may have changed since the 05 model but I dont think it would have.
Tritont, if you buy Insite for your truck and need updates, PM me. We get the newest cals, updates every month. We throw them away after we load them into our laptops. There is a great troubleshooting guide with insite for ISB engines. It is all industrial/marine but they are still very helpful.

It looks like I need to call Gary at Rapidserve and give him an ear full
I found on Quickserve the requirements and harness part numbers for Chrysler ISB engines. It says:
ISB Chrysler Insite 6.5.2 (part #3397490) J1939(only) Inline 2,4,5 use harness part numbers: #3162850(db9f-db9m) #3185141 3 pin deutsch/2 pin weatherpack/2 pin power #3162849 (2 pin weatherpack -cig. plug extension) #3163096 (J1939 backbone) #3163642 (3 pin deutsch-3 pin weatherpack for ESN 56744083 and later)
When I get to work tonight, I am going to order the last number there and try it on my truck when it gets in. I work entirely on ISX/ISM engines and never really had to plug into a ISB before, except for my own truck. Since the harnesses plug direct into the connector at the engine, you can save some money picking up a old inline 2 and using it instead of the inline 5. I am curious what kind of parameters can be changed in the ECM.

QSOL says that connector # 3163642 is for Engine #'s 56744083 and above. There is no other connector listed newer that that. My 05 has a 3 pin and should be the same. I will see if there is a difference and check back. I may need a serial number to make sure.

The correct part number for that connector is 3163646, it is for the ISB VP44 engine. Insite will not communicate with the 03 - 06 engine , it will communicate with the 07 on up but only read only. the TOSS on that connector is TT001989 on QSOL.

I heard there was a licencing issue on the common rail software,Cummins agreed not to work on that vintage. The Cummins dealers that wanted to would have to go to Dodge to buy from them.

The Cummins Inline 7 datalink adapter is a reliable adapter that can be used with many applications to communicate with various vehicle systems.
