No insult. Just tying it together with "your daily smile". Some of those are groaners also...

Of course they are. But didn't they make you smile before you shook your head? Instead of a groaner one liner I will give you something different for tomorrow.

Guys, this has been posted forever. Everyone says they have the ccv burnt oil smell for a few thousand miles when the truck is new, and also after oil changes, especially with roSMELLA. This is normal. My thoughts are that if it's really bad, your ccv is working overtime because you overfilled the oil. I think a fairly common mistake is to dump 12 full quarts of oil in. 12 quarts is the CAPACITY. You don't get ALL the oil out when you change the oil, therefore if you're filling 12 quarts in you're overfilling. Overfilling the oil causes excess crankcase ventilation and fumes.

I have the smell too. It is actually worst now(I just got my truck back from its first oil change at the dealer)
[/quote]Its the Un filtered CCvent....tube or no tube it goes RIGHT into the ventilation :
I think cummins is working on a filter for ISB industrial engines ....

Could be oil lever related, my truck is new and the oil is at or just above the top fill line...after 5,000 it's still there ;D
Soon the oil will bechanged & I'll see.

OK ....So exactly how much oil do you put in so as not to be overfull? 10 - 11 quarts?
This is my first Dodge Cummins
I changed my own oil and did as instructed by the book and it appears I am about 1 quart over?
How do you get rid of the extra quart? You can't pull the filter? They want it full when installing it! No way you could get just a quart out of the pan. Any ideas? 8)

This is my first Dodge CTD too. Here's how I do my oil changes (done 4 of them now): Have 3 gallons of fresh oil standing by, dump all the oil out of the engine using my one touch crankcase valve, remove the old oil filter; pre-fill the new oil filter and install, pour the rest of the fresh oil into the engine. Level is perfect every time. Did the last one yesterday afternoon (Amsoil throughout).
If you had one of those one-touch valves, its easy to drain a little oil out.

Could be...but I re-did the cowl seal from end to end, by placing some 1" pipe insulation over the existing seal, there by making a tighter seal between the hood and the frame. Made no difference what so ever. Although if you look at the sealing on the hood it only goes across the cowl, the sides of the hood have no seal.
Maybe if the wind dies down here, I'll tape everything down as a test and see what happens.
