The reason I'm curious is that I'm about to buy a HO built in April 2004.

I would like to know how many people bought before and after that month.

Based on the posts here, it seems (un-scientific of course) that the later build dates have a fewer number of complaints. It just sounds that way on this message board. That may or may not be correct but it's my observation so far.

I'd just like to get an idea how many trucks are early vs. later models around 4-2004.

Thanks alot for the response.

I would like to know if anyone with a 4x4 built before the first week of February is getting better than14 or 15mpg. I have seen several built after that date... that claim to get 17 to 19mpg.

12mpg city
That's mine. 14 MPG today (cruise 68-70 for the majority of 350 unloaded miles, with gently rolling hills)

Built Jan. 04. Bought Feb 26. 20122 miles. get 17-20 empty and depending on wind, rain, fuel, city mileage, etc, cruise at 70. mainly b/w 17-18. If I am in the city for more than half the miles it will drop to just below 17, but haven't seen less the 16.5 empty since 16000 miles. 14-15 hauling roughly 8000 lbs never above 70.

I know there has got to be something they can do to make my truck "act" like muddobber40's and odie2219. I only use my overhead as a reference (it averages .5mpg low) but I have yet to see it say 14.2 or better after resetting and putting a few hundred miles on the tank. Also I can't get 475 miles out of a tank before the fuel light comes on. I have almost 11,000 miles on it.

The DRW, 48RE, 11K miles may all be contributing to your numbers currently. Are you filling up/topping off the truck consistently each and every time ? Hang in there; it'll get better. My low fuel light typically comes on around 560-570 mile range, just depends on a few things.

Mine was ordered March 12, built May 22, took delivery July 16. Topped up tank when I picked it up, reset ODO Avg. Average started at 10.8 mpg and with 300 miles highway it now reads 14.2. It seems to creep up slowly but surely. Hope it keeps going. Will see how close the ECO is when I fill it up.

I can understand the 48re being a problem with mileage (compared to 6spd) but I do not think it would make a difference cruising on the interstate...holding it back on 70 mph and still getting 14mpg. On the rare ocassion that I drive stop and go for awhile...I get 11 to 12 mpg.
I always top mine off to the neck (and watch everyone in line get ticked off for having to wait 15 minutes).

Mine has a build date of 5/14/04.....I avererage about 13.5 mpg, driving 72mph....It actually gets better in town....Have had one prob this weekend with a grinding noise in the left front end......Stopped to see if anything was loose, and could find nothing.....Got back in and drove for approx 5 miles when it started again....Stopped again to take a look and found nothing.....Drove off again and it hasnt happened since.....Anybody else have this prob????? It doesnt feel like a vibe, you can only hear it when your going over a rough part of the road and the suspension is bouncing .....
