broken rockers
broken rockers
Hi guys, I haven't been on here is a while since I sold my 2005 cummins, I now have a 2006 5.9L cummins and turns out a couple rockers are broken. Couple questions why would it brake and what is the easiest way to replace and check clearence on the rest of them. The little piece on the end of the rocker that touches the X-over piece that touches the vales is what broke.
thank you
thank you
This is common where the "cup" falls out of the "ball" on the end. The collar has a lip on it that wears out over time and it just falls out when you remove the rocker arm.
If the "cup" -- or the loose part-- has still retained integrity otherwise (not a broken, chipped or cracked collar) it can remain for a long time with no issues. That statement is NOT a recommended practice as any good mechanic will tell you to replace the rocker.
The whole rocker has to be replaced, not just the cup.
Just go through the standard valve adjusment process for the rest. Instructions are on this site.
