Question break in period

I'm a newbie to the diesel engine world. Though I'm learning more everyday by researching this website. I use my truck for traveling without a load, approx. 150 miles a day. Should I borrow a trailer with a load to PROPERLY break in the motor? Or not worry about it and just drive it. I'm told by the dodge mechanic that it will just take longer to break in approx. 20,000.

any input would be appreciated.

I'm no expert but I have read that if you baby these engines to much while breaking them in the rings might not seat good and you could glaze the cylinder walls. I suppose that doesnt mean drive it like you stole it but hooking to a trailer wouldnt be a bad idea either. I dont think I would really give it to much concern.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably borrow a friends trailer and simply pull it around every now and again that's the best I can do. I bought the diesel for longevity more than pulling power. I'm still learning and just want to do the right thing to help it last the longest. Thanks again for your input.

Pulling a trailer after the odometer is at 500 miles is a good idea. I could not do that so I obtained two 55 gal. drums, laid them down in the bed, used wheel chocks to hold them in place and filled them with water. Slightly less than 1000 lbs. but at least the engine was pulling more than the weight of the truck. If anyone attempts this, you might want to use a sheet of plywood between the bed and the drums to protect the bed. I have a rubber mat and it didn't keep the weight of the drums from denting the bottom of the bed. My .02 worth.
