I had a mechanic put in new U Joints last week and he said my front pads are down to almost nothing (I knew it was about time) and he wanted to change them as he had everything apart. Additionally, he said the rotors couldn't be turned as they are at minimum already. His measurements of the rotors are LF 43.03mm and RF 43.34mm. He states 43mm is the minimum.

These are original rotors, ~177k miles, have gone through original plus 2 pair of replacement OEM pads (on second pair now). The rotors have never been 'turned'. I've not had any issues with these rotors, no warpage or fade.

I didn't gift him the work. Any ideas out there as to the longevity of un-turned rotors? Guess I'll measure when I get in there though.

 

The service manual does not list the specs. It says that the specs are stamped into the hub.

 

Not to long ago i did all four corners on my truck at 120k. I also couldnt turn my front ones, but my back are OE and there was barely enough to turn. Where your at sounds about right, your rotors are just worn down. But this is just my opinion

 

I would believe that the rotors may be worn out, even without previous machining. They changed the composition of the lining when they switched to dual-piston calipers in 2000. The pads are now really hard on rotors, compared to the older stuff. They seem to wear the rotors on a taper too.

 

170,000+ miles on rotors sounds great to me... sounds like you got your money's worth and then some.

 

Getting that much mileage out of your originals is pretty good. I had to replace my fronts at 80k. Lots of stop and go. I went with EBC rotors and pads up front and saw a vast improvement over stock.
