I bought my 07 5.9l mega cab with 14K so im sure it still has the stock pads whcih are still fine. But the brake dust is HORRIBLE while pulling my 22 ft mastercraft boat. What is everyone using as an upgrade and the best to eliminate the brake dust while maintianing the best stopping power or better then stock?

The brake dust is really bad, but the pads work well, I would be curious to know if anyone has a solution to the dust myself.

A few people did a set of slotted/drilled rotors and 6 piston calipers.

 

So theirs not a good brand of pads out their that will not put out as much duct for the stock calipers?

 

I don't know if this helps, but there are some good brake pad brands out there that put off a different "color" of dust to some extent. I myself have a ton of brake dust with my pads, but ironically they stop great, wear great, and I don't have a bit of trouble with them besides alot of dust. I had heard somewhere that there are harder pads that will put off less dust, but on the flip side tend to wear harder and or even begin to warp rotors. Just my .02

ya mine stop great but im considering bigger wheels, 18's or 20's and I will be cleaning them every 2-3 days at the way my dust is pulling my boat every weekend.

 

I tried ceramic pads on my BMW to control brake dust and hilarity did not ensue. They warped my rotors and didn't have the stopping power of OEM pads. No brake dust but the tradeoff was nowhere near worth it.

BMW brake pads are very sticky and throw waaaay more dust than my 2500.

Carbon metallic pads are dusty but they do stop your vehicle well and don't wreck the rotors they were designed to work with.

My advice is to wash your wheels and live with it.

 

x2 on washing the wheels. If I notice the wheels are too dirty for my liking, I sometimes do a quick wash on the wheels only and leave the rest of the job for another day.

 

I have been using Kleen Wheels since 2001. They work really well and Geno's sells them.

IMHO, Id stay away from cross drilled rotors.
Iv heard horror stories about the cross drilled type cracking.
Iv thought about changing mine to slotted.

When I replaced my brake pads the dealership recommended using the "value line" pads they sell. They produce more brake dust than I have ever seen with any vehicle I've ever had. The money you save on the pads is more than made up by the amount of water you use in washing your wheels. NEVER NEVER buy the "value line" unless you have nothing better to do except clean your wheels and tires weekly!!!!
