brake pads

I just called Carson Dodge for a price on brake pads.

oem pads:
front part # 5093276 $159.08.
Rear part # 5093275 $129.67.

V Line pads are $78.20 for front and the same $ for the rear.

I would like the oem pads, but the prices are high. Is this what they should cost? Are the part #,rs that I got right? Meaning the pads that originally came on the 04.5 2500 ram? Does anyone have a good online source?
Thanks for the help.

I just called Reno Dodge and got similar prices. But got some additional info. The V line pads are Value line and they are garenteed for as long as we have the truck. Are these any good? I was not planning on turning the rotors and am also wondering if the compound is compatible with the oem ones?

just bought ceramic pads off ebay for the front and rear and only pad $58 with shipping for both. Put them on this morning and a big difference over OEM and did not turn rotors at all.

What's up with ceramic pads? Are they good? Are they hard on the rotors? What brand did you get? That sounds like a good price.

I have always good luck with ceramic pads when I have gotten them off ebay. No metal on metal noise, reduced brake fade, and I have always had a good bite with the cermaic pads. Also not as much brake dust. The ones I got were called Evolutions. Do a search on ebay for dodge 2500 brake pads and you will see them.

stealman,

I got a set of OEM pads for $107. at another dealer. Still high for pads in general but better than $159. There seems to be a big difference in pricing and Carson Dodge doesn't mind charging high prices for their stuff! (that's where I got my truck)

I'm wondering about the ceramics too but the stock pads work so well I'm amazed. Hard call on whether to switch or not.

Ceramic pads meet or exceed all original equipment standards for durability, stopping distance and noise. According to durability tests, ceramic compounds extend brake life compared to most other semi-metallic and organic materials and outlast other premium pad materials by a significant margin - with no sacrifice in noise control, pad life or braking performance.

Love mine no brake dust on rims and it stops faster. Bought them at Checker for 75 front 65 rear I think.
The only thing that I did not like is that there is a 300 mile brake in period before you tow heavy it just to the get and pads rotors mate together.

I did some searching on this site. I am a little worried about the ceramic being hard on the rotors. Some people have recommended the Performance Friction pads. I found them online at Brake Performance for $65 front and $75 rear. Then I called Autozone and they can get the Performance Friction pads for $33 front and $50 rear. The different suppliers have different part numbers. Do you think these are the same pads? The Autozone guy said they sell the carbon metallic. Not sure what the online ones are. Anyone else recommend these pads?

Thanks for the help. I need all I can get when it comes to these trucks.

I ran the same brand from autozone on my 99 powerstroke they squealed like a stuck pig every time I stopped. Problem went away when I switched to a different brand and went to Pep Boys.

Man it just keeps getting more and more confusing. I just want to get some brake pads that work good at a fair price and are not hard on the rotors. What should I get? Please recommend.

I put NAPA premium pads on about 15k ago, they were about $69. I tow over 10000 lbs. once or twice a month and so far I am happy with the NAPA pads.

I agree with SAS on this one. I have a shop and we do brakes. Ceramic pads are usually what I recommend to my customers. However, they do not have the stopping power as semi-metallic pads. To me it is very important to stop this much weight especially when I tow. I have replaced OEM with Bendix. They wore out to quickly and squealed. I put Car-Quest on next. The NAPA and Carquest are made by Ray-bestos and are great pads.
