Bought some KYB Monomax shocks

Put them on this past weekend and they are awesome. You may have read my preaching about these in the past but they are great. My stockers had 21k on them and were still ok, but the Tire Rack have them on clearance. I paid $208 +shipping for 4 shocks. These are very firm, it took all of my 190lbs to compress the rears. I thought they would be too stiff but they're not. no more body lean around corners and the rear end stays planted on rough chip-n-seal roads.

Thanks for the input. I have been considering these as an alternative to Bilsteins and have never been able to get any feedback from anyone with a third gen truck. I have the same mileage as you and my stockers are still useable but definitely worn. The red color should look good on a red truck.

I just ordered the Bilsteins. Hate to admit it but I bought them because they were silver and black. Could not stand the thought of the red KYB's on my blue truck

Did you get part number 565018 for the front and 565105 for the rear? Thanks.

I am sure they do since my stock ones worked with the 2" leveling kit on my truck.

the stock shocks will work on a leveled truck however there will be 2 inches less of extention travel because of the two inches of increased ride height. the shocks are the limiter on extention, they will get thrashed but they will also bolt up. it's just a matter of time till the blow.

i put the taller springs on my truck with stock shocks and they worked but go over a speed bump at a fun speed and you will soon find out that going with a two inch longer shock will be MUCH better........

If you have a leveling kit you may be better off with the Bilstein 5100's, which are adjustable from 0" to 2" of lift on the front.

Monomax

I used the Monomax on my previous 96 1500 Ram. They were great. Truck rode level and it had that good tight ride. No mush ride or wallow, no tail wag when towing my travel trailer. They were still strong after 40k miles and the paint on them was good, with no rust after several winters

I tried the ranchos before I found the Monomax. The Ram swayed and wallowed after 4500 miles on the ranchos. It would bottom out crossing railroad tracks at speed. The ranchos were the absolute worst shocks I have owned. I had a set of Gabriels that lasted longer and were stronger than the ranchos.

I put Monomax on my Montero and my Jeep wrangler after they proved their worth on the Ram.
I am glad to hear that the Monomax fit the 2500's. I plan to purchase them later this year. Maybe it will make the truck look more level?

I'll follow up on any change in the height of the truck when I get mine on in a few weeks.

I think not. The fronts are actually about 1/2-3/4 inch shorter than the factory shocks. I think stumpjumper is correct in saying you will trash them sooner or later.

I think that was the numbers. As for ride height, the truck doesn't look any taller but it does feel taller when I drive it. I doubt that it is. Probably because it doesn't dip down and wallow on uneven roads anymore.

Here's an idea if your concerned about long term looks. Before I install new shocks I scuff them with a scotch pad and give them 3-4 coats of Rustoleum clear enamel. It really helps prevent rust, especially if your roads are salted in the winter.

Let us know how you like them when you get them put on.

MoparNut,
Thanks for the tip. I was wanting to put some shocks on my 04.5. I had decided between the Bilstins and the KYB's. The price has been keeping me away though. I just ordered them for the same price you got them for.
Can't wait to try them...
