bolt fell in engine-help

feel really stupid even posting this but

put in new injectors and while putting things back the intake grid heater bolt was kept where the wiper arm is in the center just below the windshield, it fell thru that hole and i heard a clunk. it was getting dark
looked and fished for it with a magnet/fingers for hours couldnt find it, so put everything back together and started truck
everything was fine until i moved the vehicle in a parking lot and i heard a clunk and it sounded like the bolt was in the valve cover holding something open close, immediately shut truck off
removed cylinder 5 and 6 rockers arms, still can't fint the bolt.
where could it have ended, i thought at first it lodged itself in the valve springs
but its not there, where could it have ended ?
yes i know i am really stupid, and i am ready to take your criticism but i need to find that bolt and hope it didnt do much damage/bend valves, its like a 2.5-3 inch bolt
thanks

Is it small enough to go down the oil drain or pushrod holes? I've dropped stuff along side the engine and never found them. There's lots of hiding places under the hood. Craig

I too have lost things in the eninge bay and know a 6" area they are in and NOTHING!

If it fell in the motor it probably would go down the pushrod opening to the cam/tappets. If it made it past them it's probably in the bottom of the oil pan.

Are you SURE it fell inside the engine? Ive lost bolts before swearing they fell inside the engine and it just hid itself really well along side of it...Do you know anyone with a bore scope?

It might just end up in the deep part of the pan, if it went all the way down but it would sure suck if it was on top of the cam! Craig
