Blowby question

Just how much vapor should be visible coming out of the breather tube at operating temp.? Was under my truck with a flashlight the other night and surprised myself, I think shining a light on it might have made it seem worse than it really is.

Thanks, Eric

The other day I had the same thought. I was curious....and we all know what curiosity leads us to do....so I held my finger over the breather tube for about 10 sec and I could actually hear a "whooooosh" of air come out of it when I removed said finger. My engine has right at 300k on it so I did expect some blow-by....but a whooosh?

It got the wheels in my head turning and then as I pondered some pics of some "so-called-stock" sled pullers, I saw a decent amount of smoke coming from the breather tube so I just figured whatthehey.

I think I'm gonna just let lying dogs lay. I have no problems with my engine so I think I'll just let this one go.

People get all ramped up about crankcase pressure. If you don't have a manometer, and get an actual reading of crankcase pressure. Don't worry about it. Until you have an actual measued number to be worried about.

Now if you believe the engine has a serious problem, get the tool, get a measurement, go from there.

But I believe youre talking about 3rd gen engines. Id say you actually do have a higher cause for concern.

Mine has been like this since I got it at 25000 miles. Not visible during the day but can be seen when a light shines on it at night. I've got 65000 miles on it now with no problems. They DO put that hose there for a reason...
