Blow by
Blow by
Has anyone ever had excessive blow by/white smoke caused from a bad head gasket. Is it possible for a head gasket to fail and pressurize the crank case?
I bought my truck with 117,xxx miles on it knowing it burned a little oil. Oil consumption is much higher now at 149,xxx miles. Developed rough idle at 146,000 miles. Checked all injectors. All good. Oil coming out breather tube. Oil fill cap will bounce around when unscrewed. But....... I am loosing water out of radiator as well. Over flow is always full. But radiator will go low in a week.
Truck still has tons of power. And still gets 20-21 mpg on freeway. Pretty good white haze when I start the truck up in the morning. Rough idle calms down once warmed up. But still rougher than it should be.
Truck still runs good enough to drive anywhere I need to go. Don't mind pulling head. But if there is not way a head gasket can cause blow by I might has well just pull the motor.

It wouldn't hurt to send an oil sample to the lab to see what's wearing down internally, or leaking in. I use Blackstone on every oil change. Chump change.
Back to morning brew . . .

Thanks FMB. I had thought about that my self. I am ready to pull the motor if needed. Trying to find a block now. Don't really want to sleeve my current block. My buddy works at a local machine shop and said the sleeves have zero issues. But I just don't like the idea of sleeving it.....
I think you have several issues going on with your engine.
I recommend to remove all 6 injectors and run a compression test.
Not difficult, but time consuming and you will require a specialized compression tester with the Cummins CR injector adapter.
This will determine your next step.
Also, unless you lift the cab, it's much easier to remove and install the engine with the head removed.

Yep
Stealth thanks for the reply. As much as I wish it was just a HG. I know it's much more. Going to focus on finding another block. Truck still runs good. Drive it every day. Not bothering me much. My wife hates the extra smoke from breather tube and exhaust. But I tell her "that's coming out the back of the truck babe and I sit up front." Don't bother me a bit. 😂
