Block interchange? '05 & '01

I found an '05 3500 with a rodknock & I have a '01 5.9L 24V out of a Freightliner bus.
Can I use the '01's block & rotating assembly in the '05?

Well, this is a bit late...

No, the 2001 shortblock won't interchange.

The timing case won't interchange between the 2, so you'll have no way to mount up the correct injection pump.

You COULD use the '01 crank and rods in the 2005, but you (or a machinist with the right tools) will need to drill the '01 crank to accept the dowel that locates the tone ring, which is located behind the harmonic damper on the 2005.

Mark.
