got another question about the block heater. i know with the old trucks we started using the heater just for the fact that we get heat quicker because the cummins is so cold blooded. when we never used them we'd start them up around 0*+/- with out any issues then ran the heaters for a couple years (only have 4-5 months of cold weather usually in the teens or 20's) and when we stopped using them , lazy or no power hook up, they hated to start or wouldnt. from there on we had to plug them in allways it was like the motor created a memory and would start wiith out being warm. Im not sure if this is true about the common rail. It wasnt bad trucks either we had about 12 of them different years 98-02 bought new from different dealers we also had the same problem with are fords if we plugged them in all the time then didnt no start or really hard starts and thos were 7.3l and 1 6.0l. i mean i have never had any issues with start ups wich is great went snowmobilen up in maine for 3 days truck sat in -10* weather and the day we left was around -20 or -25 only cummins up there 2 fords 7.3 and a 6.0 and a duramax cummins fired up ran ruff for a min but was fine the others went down the road for power cords lol no starts for them.

Behind the oil filter. Easiest to see if you look up at oil filter from under the truck. May be covered by an approximately 1" diameter cap.

I just put a tank heater on mine and love it. Ive had it on for a week now and it blows te crapy block heater out of the watter. I can leave the factory block heater pluged in all day at work and come out and start teh truck and the temp gauge is still on the peg and I have no heat for a long time. Now with this tank heater I go plug it in at last break abought 2 1/2 hours before I leave and when I come out the temp gauge reads 180* before I even start the truck. Today I pluged it in as soon as I shut it off this morning because we had an ice storm today and I was hoping that it would keep enough heat in the heater core to keep the windshield from getting to bad. Whe I went out tonight I had some ice on the windsgield but it scraped off easaly and I had ice melting off the windshield before the high idle kicked in(2 minutes). A coworker has a powerstroke and he had his pluged in all day as well but when I left he was still waiting for his truck to warm up enough to get the ice loose enough to scrape.
