Block Heater Not Installed.....

Everywhere I have read on here states that Cummins installs the block heater, that only the cord is optional. On my last Dodge this was the case, on this truck, 2004 I ordered a cable from genos only to crawl under and find that there was no heater. My question is this, when I order the engine heater and pull the plug out will I lose all coolant and what are the torque specs. Does the heater need thread sealer? How common is this not to have a heater installed?

Ok, from the top:

1. Yes you will lose some coolant but, if you're quick, it won't be very much.
2. Yes, you need either thread sealant or teflon tape.
3. Torque is 55 ft lbs/75Nm
4. According to the manual, it was optional!

That's a first for me...

There are a few pics in this thread that shows the location a little better.

First for me too, last truck had the heater in it, this just has a plug where I assume it goes. Looked at our other truck that was purchased from the same dealer the same day and it has the cap where the cord goes. I guess Genos is the best place to order the heater from?

To the OP. Look at madhat's post. The pic you took is not the right plug. The cord can be bought from Cummins, the dealer, Geno's or Napa.

FYI check your local cummins dealer, or Cummins shop(any big truck dealer/shop). My local dealer had the cord for 11.74 and no shipping.

Correct I have the cord, arrived today, I am missing the element, theres a plug screwed into the block that removes with a 3/8 rachet. What does cummins get for the element, Genos is $28.95

It's gonna be about that. It may be a little cheaper, but not much. Where do you live?

The reason I ask, I was gonna see if there was a cummins dealer nearby. It would be cheaper if there was one within driving distance.

I used one in Southern SC... not here, tho!

Dude, for 20~ bucks, get the one from Geno's. You're only gonna save a couple of bucks, and you'll make that up in the hassle trying to get a cummins shop send you one.

I mean, if you really want, I can swing by one of the five that I have here in town and mail it to you...
