Block Heater

Anybody know where the block heater plug is on the 600 series Cummins? Truck is an 04.5 and there is no plug to be found in the normal locations and it is going to be in the 20's tonight.

Mine's an early '04 and I'm wondering the samething. I just did a search and one post said something about having to purchace a cord to hook up to a connector to make it work. Is this true? If so, that is stupid. Do they not come like the 2nd gens anymore with the cord ready to be plugged in?

Most trucks have the block heater but you have to buy the plug seperate unless you ordered it from factory with it on. Costs about 40 bucks from dealer but they are cheaper at cummins dealers. So you probably dont have plug, I found out the same way.

Welcome to DTR. Farmer Davis is correct. Order one from Cummins and it is around $14-16. Stick around, lots of info on this site. Click the "User CP" up in the blue bar and fill out your signature. Again, welcome.

Its on the exhaust side under the turbo intake... if you have it..

You should be fine in the 20's.. Cummins says you dont need to plug in until 0*F with dino 15w-40 or -20*F with syn 5w-40... I have started mine at 9* this winter and it was the same as starting at 40*.

Look between the turbo and oil filter. Look for this plug. If you have the cord, you can follow it and find the socket end. If you don't have it, then you will have to buy one. Either one off of a wrecked Dodge in a junkyard, or at the Cummins dealer will have a better price than Dodge will.

It's a little better than not coming with a block heater at all. At least you don't have to drain all the coolant to install just the cord.

Yea be glad the whole block heater isn't an option. Your getting off pretty cheap only having to buy the cord. It's a dealer by dealer case on whether they order their trucks with the cord. Here in AZ they dont cuz we rarely have to plug our trucks in when it's 115*.

It's a money maker for 'em. It's, I think, a $20 option. I lived in the Florida Keys when I bought my '04, so did not put the cord on the option list when I ordered it.

It's just like why they don't put rear wheel well liners in any more. Not even in 4X4s. So they can sell you a set.

$20 dollars when ordered new, but about $50 or so when you try to buy just the cord from the dealer!

Most truck stops or NAPA's have them for about $15 - they just don't have the cute little push pins to hold them on. Zip ties worked fine for me!

I do not know what the dimensions are on the heater plug. As long as the heater connector looks like this, 2 hole plug with a ground pin with a 115 socket on the end should do fine, as long as it fits of course.

Normally a cord comes with a 115 socket on it, this picture shows it with no socket becuase I cut it off when I installed my Marinco bumper sockets.
