block heater?
I've always gotten best results with a minimum of 3 hrs, but I leave mine plugged in all night from when I go to bed till I get up to go to work.
Where are you from, up north it might take a bit longer.

All night here,I am going to get a timer though and set it for 3 hrs before I need it but being retired thats more guess work
On the flip side the only reason I use it is becuse I love having the warm air right after I start it up.

2 hrs here in the cold season -20 -40 below wont even heat the front part of the head.. it takes at least 6 hours to even heat the head to feel any warmth from it.. I've got two oil pan heaters 200 watts each one on each side of the oil drain plug. plus the block heater, and a battery trickle charger. and a transmission pan heater 100 watts. altogether!! that will heat her up at -25 in about 4 hours ready to drive.
you guys have it way easy..
last year I wanted to see how cold my engine would start up. I found that it will start right down to -29below once it hit -31 it wouldnt start
it did try to fire but just too cold to get her going.. I stopped didnt wanna kill my starter or anything else.
plugged her in at about 8 or 9 am, and by 3pm that day I was able to start it up and go to town.

I never plug mine in until it gets down to or below zero. I only plug it in for 3 hours an by the time I back it out of the garage, warm it up for 2 minutes, drive 6 blocks through town to the Hwy I can have 60 degree heat coming from the heater vents. I also have a Dodge winter front that I use but not until it stays below 40 degrees in the daytime.
