block heater?

the dealer said there was no block heater, no glo plugs and just igniters on this new rig of mine. However, being in the 40's at night here in Oregon on vacation, I noticed the little squirrly line of a wait to start like I had in my Ford diesel. Can someone give me the skinny on what I have with the cummins please.

He is right kinda cummins do not use glow plugs they have a intake heater grid the think plate under the intake horn. the motor has a block heater passenger side of block beside the oil filter easier to see with turbo intake tube off unscrew the cap and that is the block heater you have to buy the cord and run it to the front

You do have a block heater but the power cord is optional. You can pick one up for less then $20 if you don't have it. There are no glow plugs but it does have a heater grid and yes that is a wait to start light.

The "wait to start" light only comes on below a certain temperature on the 06 and 07's.

A block heater is an option and most dealers dont order them with one. Most likely you dont have one but unless you look an see you wont know.

I believe the block heater is installed on all the engines, but unless you option for a block heater, you don't get the cord. BTW $10 option.

It's avail at any truck supply house or Cummins dealer. If you order from Dodge it's quite a bit more than their $10 add at order time, have heard over $50 for the cord. I got mine at an International dealer for $14 out the door. Took all of 2 minutes to install. Took more time to find the block heater than to install the cord. Oh you will need sone type of clip to hold the cord onto the frame rail which Dodge dosen't even list, I got a Chevrolet part that just pushed into the frame and snapped closed over the wire.

Pretty sure that the wait to start light will illuminate when temps drop below 55* Don't really need to start plugging it in till you drop in the teens or want faster warmups if you drive short distances. The block heater is right behind the oil filter housing. It is tough to see, but it is there.

Geno's has that block heater bumper plug. Pretty convenient and well worth the money IMO.

I assume the heater is in the same location as my 06. Here is a picture I took when the motor was out of the truck. It's not a real good one but you get the point.

You can find original Dodge heater cords on eBay for around $25-30. They have the correct push-clips already in place, already lined up for the corresponding holes in the frame.

Why waste time on Ebay, then pay shipping when you can get a cord from Cummins for under $15.00 that is unless you like to pay extra $$ for a few push in clips.
