Black Smoke

Well, I started the long repair road on my '03. Ball Joints and U-joints are replaced. Think - THINK - I isolated the tranny leak to a failing pan gasket. The truck has been sitting a while, so when I got the joint work done, I ran it out on the highway for 2 hours or so with bursts slowing down and mashing the accelerator to clean out the exhaust system and clear any built-up soot. Well, the soot problem never went away. I decided to remove the Xillaraider 65hp tow box and nothing got better. After a few days of driving it and refilling the tank, the soot problem has only gotten worse.

I gunned the truck comming out of an intersection, and unfortunately, the black cloud obscured the intersection. Lucky for me, no cops around. There's no way I'm going to get this beast past emissions this year. I think I'm going to need help figuring this one out, because the registration is expired, and I need the wheels when I come home.

Any ideas for black smoke? Got the blue and white figured out, I think.

Have you checked your air filter or for boost leaks?

Buy a Smarty, load the half power setting, done. When was the last time the air filter was checked?

Either way, you have an 03, you should still be ok. I passed my 05 with ALOT of smoke in NC. And you can slip the guy an extra 20

Haha. Air filter was cleaned recently. Not sure how to check for a boost leak, however. Too bad they keep you behind glass when they do the dyno. No way to slip the guy a 20. Around here, though, it would probably take a c-note.

Spray all your intercooler hoses, boots, and fittings with some soapy water...

Then start your truck up and look for any bubbles...

Easy, DIY, way to check for boost leaks.
