bio-diesle question

I was just reading my manual and it said my truck is ready to take 5% biodiesel. Can someone explain this to me. I am not sure what exactly this means. i would think this means that if i have a 35 gallon tank, then i have to fill 33.5 gallons of regular diesel fuel, and add 1.5 biodiesel. or 5% biodiesel which is 1.5 gallons. If this is true why would someone go through all that trouble of putting 1.5 gallons of biodiesel in there truck. whats the purpose?

I wanna say that its already mixed at the pump. You are OK to use B5(5% bio-diesel) if its available in your area. Some places have B20(20%) also

5% biodiesel is a common blend available at the pump. (5% biodiesel/95% regular diesel). So, you can fill your tank completely with this blend. Your calculation is correct if you used 1.5 gallons of 100% biodiesel to 33.5 gallons of regular diesel, giving you a 5% biodiesel blend.

Where I buy diesel, I can get 5%, 20%, or 40% biodiesel blend from the pump.

I could think of 2 reasons to pump B5.

1. Reduces dependence on foreign oil.

2. Bio at just a 2% ratio is considered one of the best forms of fuel lubrication.

Like the others said, I don't mix it, I just pump the bio blend that is available at the pump. Personally, I will pump B5-B20.

We have B20 in this area (20% Biodiesel). My fill up is 10 gal B20 and the rest w/ ULSD. Gives me 2 gal Biodiesel per tank.... roughly 5%

Gives better starts, smoother idle and it's the best way to add lubricity to the ULSD. Also helps clean the engine better and helps buy less Arab oil!! Any more than B5 and I notice a reduction in mileage... due to less BTU's in the Biofuel.

Call them you may need a B.U.G. card (Biodiesel Users Group) some stations require them.

Just pump 2 gallons of B100 and the rest ULSD when you fill up.

Many run B20 in their 06-07 5.9's. I'm not saying to do that, just saying many do.

no one sells bio around here either. Isn't there a pending federal regulation that all diesel has to be 1% bio by a certain date?

That'd be nice if it wasn't a 70+ mile trip one way from here to there.

Here in NC (where I am anyway) it is same price as ULSD. I run B-20. Mainly for the cleanliness of fuel system and lubricity. Cummins says OK to run B-20, (what do they know/they only designed and built engine) -----yet Dodge says only B-5 approved. I don't know reason why. How did you ruin VW diesel running BIO? I also run it in my 2002 VW tdi.

I'd like to run bio also, but like you driving 35 miles or so, most of it up the Cajon Pass, to get it makes it cost prohibitive. I try to do my part.....
