Bio Diesel Mix??
Bio Diesel Mix??
Took a road trip a few weeks ago down to Florida and pulled into a place for fuel. On the pump there was a sticker that said>>>Their Diesel fuel had a Bio Diesel 20% Mix....Will running a Bio Diesel Mix with Diesel Fuel hurt the fuel system or the motor? I only saw that at a couple of places we stopped at.
Another added side-benefit of 'bio' is the lubricity it provides your fuel system. I, actually, mix about a 2% blend of 'bio' to the fuel when I know I've gotten ULSD fuel. 2% 'bio' wil give you more than enough lubricity to protect your fuel delivery system. Check out the Spicer Fuel Additive Test on dieselplace.com (Duramax website) for more interesting information about lubricity additives. Bio was the best.

In my owners manual (07 5.9L) it suggest not to use over a 5% blend. I think my tank is 33 gallons I just pump in 1.5 gallons of 100% soybean Bio and then filler up with ULSD. I'm still on the first tank of Bio and really cant tell a difference, But i bet those injectors and pump are happy campers.
I run bio whenever I can. Have run 100% and never a problem.
My first thought is that I'd rather put my money in an American farmers pocket than some Arab's
First time I encountered bio was in Iowa a few years back. Was driving our MH (Motor Home) with a Cat 3126. Stopped in a truck stop to fuel and noticed an extra diesel pump, looked closer and saw my first bio pump. Bio was 2 cents more than dino but thought what the heck, if I pump in 90 gallons that's $1.80 so filled it. I usually leave a diesel running when I fuel so if they have water, it'll die right there, not on the road. Noticed that the exhaust smelled like fries cooking. It did stain the trailer some and the stain was real hard to get back off, worse than the one regular diesel puts on there but thats the worse that I've noticed. Mileage seems to be about the same and have not had any problems with fuel filters clogging, gelling, or anything.

I believe earlier this year they approved B20. I run as much bio as I can, but I do run a mix with a gel additive during the winter, even though it doesnt get too cold here in AZ
Like said before, just change your fuel filter, as it will clean your tank out. I love the smell and noise difference.

Its going to be hard for them to keep enforcing that rule when some states are drafting legislation to madate minimums of biodiesel mixed. cummins will figure it out.
Fleet vehicles are approved by Cummins to run 100% bio, Some city busses run it.
I run it when ever I can, There are a few around my place that sell B10 that is all the higher they go around here.
Yes Cummins has approved the use of 20% Bio but only for for government, militarily and fleet use. Dodge still only approves the use of 5% Bio at this time for you and I when it comes to warranty work. If you don't have a warranty to worry about then use what ever Bio % you want or feel safe with.
