bucket full of money. Hmmm, I have a small bucket and alot of pennies.

Thanks, I think I may look into that capping off idea if there is a possibility of that. I'm gonna wait til it gets a little warmer out. It's fricken 1 degree out right now.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
The oil analyze is great ideal. No the results will not be covered by adding oil. If it's wearing it is adding metal to oil.
Places to get sampale analyzed include:
NAPA, Blackstone, PETRO truck stops by another thread, Cummins, Any oil distributor, Amsoil, and many more, others can add.
I use Analysis Plus in Ariziona at 866-652-2663

Okay. I just started the truck up and did the broom handle thing. I tried pvc pipe, but it all sounded the same due to the hollow echo. Anyway. . . the only real differences I could detect were that on the fuel line fittings going into the injector 1 4 and 6 had a slight knock, whereas 2,3, and five sounded smoother.
Now... I used my hand to feel the fuel lines and they all felt smooth EXCEPT number 1 definately had a strong pulsing to it. Do you think that using feel is reliable ??? Is there any other way to test this without having to drive this thing 20 miles to a mechanic ? I mean I have put about 2,000 miles on it with the knock, but now that it has sat for a month I have lost confidance in it not doin more damage.
Thanks, Dan

DamDamDam... I unplugged the harnesses from the injectors (one plug at a time) and the knock did NOT go away. So this basically means rod knock, right ? What else could it be ?
What bothers me is that it does not sound loose. What I mean is that I have had 2 cars with rod knocks and when you would change r.p.m's quick or on shut down it would have a loose rattle to it. This doesn't...It almost sounds normal. Just a constant every revolution knock. It ALMOSt sounds like it's coming from the bellhousing, but I am assuming that's becasue it is hollow there. Looks like i'll be pullin the pan this weekend.
How obvious should it be when I do this. If there is a knock does that mean a definate noticable movement ? I don't really know cause in my past vehicles, I yanked the engine and put new in. Not doin that with this thing.

Did you ever discover where the knock was coming from?

If the knock didnt go away, then it likely is not a rod knock. It could be a main bearing or thrust knock.Could be anything really. Why dont you get the oil sampled before you tear the engine apart. You never know,it may be ok.

Yes. I pulled the engine and tore it down. The number 6 piston skirt had scuffed the cylinder wall due to the lack of oil when my oil filter was leaking. As soon as work picks up I am gonna have it bored and put new pistons in it. Until then the truck is just sitting collecting dust.
