Best Brand of Diesel Fuel Conditioner
Stanadyne for me too, every tank, every truck year round. Never gelled but one time. That was because I was out of Stanadyne and on E, filled up anyway at -20f, made it 15 miles. Stanadyne makes injection pumps, so I figure they know what is good for them. I also got over 300K out of my 95 still running strong with the original pump and injectors. Maybe a coincidence I don't know. But I will keep buying it.
For years I never had to use anti gel additives as the fuel I bought was already winterized to -30 that is until the stuff they used caused problems with the the Bio diesel used in MN, after that came up they started to winterize our fuel with 30% number 1 diesel and it was then I started to use anti gel.
-14 here
Howe's and Power Service are the most available for me locally. Don't laugh, but I choose the PS over Howe's just because the PS bottle has the oz. marked on the side, Howe's doesn't. Makes it easier to figure out how much to add per tank.
I used a mix of TCCW 2 stroke oil (half pint per fillup) along with acetone (1oz per 10 gallons). My filtration is good using the Airdog and a 1 micron filter and San Diego is not cold enough to consider gelling. With the acetone it must be the good stuff from the beauty supply stores...not the autobody stuff. My mileage is 1.1 mpg higher with the acetone than without it. Best of luck
I took a 5K mile trip in August, hauling a 6K# trailer. Kept track of my fuel mileage out and back. Averaged just over 12mpg with no additives. Added 1/2oz/gal of Walmart's cheapo 2-stroke oil (can't recall the brand name) at $11.xx/gal. No difference in mileage. I moved it up to 1oz/gal of the same oil and saw an improvement to just over 14mpg (14.2-14.5) average. It is possible that differences in terrain and wind may have contributed, but those are the results I got. Doesn't seem to make any difference (certainly less than 1mpg) for me in my normal rural/town driving.
One thing I do notice, though, is that my injectors are quieter when I run with the 2-stroke oil.

The only way I can use 2 cycle oil and not lose fuel mileage is if I also add in the same amount of Howe's as I do 2 cycle oil and then so long as I don't use more then 8 oz per 20 gallon refill.
Like DTR Member notw, I also use "Stanadyne Performance Formula" in every tankful. I have been using it in my 2006 for almost five years now and for over ten (10) years in my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve. No problems at all and I feel it helped save my 1996 fuel components when I got ALOT of water in the fuel this past summer.
