Been banging for a week

Been banging on my passenger side hub bearing for a week. Tried every trick in the book. So tomorrow this thing is coming off with my new parts breaker. 😂

Nice puller. Suggestion; turn the jack around or use a heavy steel base plate. The reason I am saying this is that maybe a concentrated load on that area of the jack could crack the case. The heavy steel plate will help to spread the load.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have the axle nut flush with axle and a small 1/4 plate between jack and axle.

After at least 2-3 tons of pressure and 8lb sledge banging for an hour I give up. Hub will not budge. Maybe porta power?

acetone and auto trans fluid 50:50 mix makes a really good penetrating oil. Heat is often helpful, too.

Thanks Bob. My buddy just brought over his service truck. I put the heat to it with a rose bud. So much pressure on my press that it broke. Going to chisel it off. Made a sawzall cut on top. Will attack it tomorrow afternoon.

this may be a dumb question, but did you take out the 3 bolts that are in the back of the steering knuckle and hold the bearing hub to the knuckle ???

Bob do you mean 4 bolts? Yes bolts are out. Tried pressing them out with steering wheel and socket/extension. Tried hammering on bolts. My buddy who has been a local motive mechanic for 20 years has never seen a bearing so "stuck"

Try doing the socket extension up against the axle housing again with the bolt unscrewed a little on one of the bolts towards the rear of the truck. Put the brake rotor back on with some washers between it and the lug nuts to hold it tight. Have a friend get in the truck start it up and have him turn (hang) on the steering wheel as hard as he can. Then get a large preferably sledge hammer to hit the rotor swinging towards the outside of the truck.

10 minutes with a chisel. Hub is off....!!! Will need new dust shields. But one side is on the mend. Both passenger side ball joints are completely wore out.

Anything I need to know about installing new ball joints? Should I use anti seize for the ball joints?
