Ball Joint Time

I am getting ready to replace my ball joints (upper & lower.) Is there anything else I should replace at this time? Thanks for your help.

grease the hubs, i know they arent greasable supposidly but you might as well pull the abs sensor and add some grease. there is a thread on it. replace the front u joints too while your at it if you have a 4x4. also check tie rods and maybe get the upgraded steering and if you want go and get a steering box brace. thats what i will be doing this weekend. hopefully

What about the axel seals? I have a buddy that works at a 4X4 shop and he said since my truck has 123xxx miles and a lift... and it was going to be apart I might as well do that too!

Is this a waste of time and resources or a good idea?

I could be wrong but I think you have to pull the diff to replace axle seals. I would just be very careful when you reinstall the shafts not to tear them. There was talk on here about another company that made a better ball joint but they where anymore expensive then the autopart store brands... Here is the site but I don't really know how you order them...

http://www.xrfchassis.com/

maybe some else will chime in on these...

I called XRF and gave them my address and they sent a huge list of parts dealers who have them in stock.

Mr. Thuren's recommendation is what made me look at the XRF units.

I sent them and e-mail and the responded the next business day... told me to call then and I could order them that way... around 57$ a piece... only bad thing is the lowers are on backorder for 30 days... and that was a week ago... I need them now... I think I'm going to try the heavy duty ones from NAPA... about the same price and the offroad shop I use said they put them in all the time with really good luck...

I have read so many accounts of guys having trouble with Moog ball joints that I'll never have one. Scary stories of wandering steering and fighting to maintain a lane. Brand new ball joints!
The one guy cut open a brand new ball joint and found out why the Moog's are junk, seems the weight on a diesel makes the joint bind as the top of the joint goes over the bottom. If y'all could see my hands right now I'm making gestures that make this all make perfect sense!

Anyway, my long research on this lead me to XRF. Some folks learn the hard way, I read about the horror stories and that's all I need to know. And bless you if you have Moogs and they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. My luck doesn't run that way. If there's one bad ball joint in a million, I'll end up with it!

So I would recommend two, those really expensive $550 apiece jobbies that last a lifetime and are perfect works of art, and the XRF models.

Good luck!
