Ball joint movement

Somebody refresh my memory.... It's ok to have a little side to side movement but not ok to have any up or down movement.

Thanks from a failing memory old guy.

Dodge specs on the ball joints are way off. The up and down movement should be limited to .5mm.

Up and down movement isn't a good thing. If you can noticeably feel the ball joints lose then they should be replaced.

Yeah, well, brand new ball OEM ball joints have .060 up and down movement. They sure didn't wear that much in 700 miles.

Just the way it is.

Dynatrac, Dynatrac, here I come.

Well I just bought some XRF ball joints from our new site advertiser here... I guess it will take a while to see how it works out.

an upper xrf i put in was bad after 9K. lower had no lateral movement, but could spin it around quite easily. when i put the new upper in, had to put the allen wrench on it as it was spinning when tightening the nut.

Did you try to warranty the part? If so what was your experience?

Thanks!

So I was in at Dodge and told them that the upper adjustable ball joints move about 1/16" sideways. Not up or down. They told me that the .060 was normal. I thought what good are adjustables if they move back and forth.

My truck just failed inspection today due to both upper ball joints being bad. Lucky for me I still have the bumper to bumper MasterCare Warranty for two more weeks. Looks like I shouldn't have to pay for this repair....
