Ball Joint Disaster??

I had a buddy with a Dakota that broke a ball joint on the highway and lost the entire front suspension on the pasenger side, so when I got my tuck inspected 4 months ago when i bought it they told me I would need ball joints soon but they were good for now, but in june im going on a 2000 mi. trip to canada and now conserned about my chances of a trouble free trip, without the time to do it myself before then sould i dish out the $$ and have it done or just say the hell with it and go as is. Anyone had major problems with there ball joints.

Get it taken care of before you leave, you don't need that on the back of your mind.

I would have them inspected by someone who KNOWS these trucks and the specs. I don't remember which is which (top vs bottom) but one is allowed to have .060" play and the other is allowed .090" of play according to the service manual. Many people get theirs changed because you can move them a little bit. Just FYI.

He's right, right after having my front end checked I leveled it and put on my 35's, took it for an alignment who told me all 4 BJ's were shot. He showed me, there was lotsa play in them.
Went back to the dealer, they checked them and said they were "withing spec", so who do you believe?

I will say my tires are wearing fine and I have no clunks or front end issues.

The ball joints on our trucks are not known for breaking just getting loose to the point of noises and death wobble.
Carli suspension has a set of uppers that will last as long as the mighty Cummins

Funny how the Dakota and Durango got a recall on ball joints but we didn't.

I'm assuming it's the same/similar problem and possible potential of danger.
