bad injectors

alright my truck only has 12000 miles and so far the dealer had to replace the #1,2,and now #5 injector. WHat causes the injectors to fail?

Will ashless two stroke oil hurt?
Will the quad xzt cause it?

Thanks guys

I would look at your quad xzt. IIRC it raises the fuel pressure and that can cause injector problems.

The XZT doesn't raise the pressure enough to cause problems. I have watched the rail pressures on the xzt , heck - even on the 140HP Race version, and they are well within what the system was designed to run. From everything I have been reading lately, it sounds like water is the biggest killer of injectors. I would take some fuel samples.

Dirt in the fuel does. Have you put filters on the fuel tank vents? You should use the 7-micron filter available for the stock filter canister. It might not hurt to look at an aftermarket filter unit too.

Agree with Mitternocht, it's bad fuel. Spoke to a 30 yr. diesel veteran mechanic and he says water is usually not a problem with injectors, it's dirty fuel (rust from water in your fuel, rust from someone's fuel tank, trash, etc. I just changed an injector at 149000, my first. I change fuel filter elements each time I change oil.

Do yourself a favor and get an alternative filtration setup. Run something besides the stock filter. 2micron setups are easy to do.

the quad will speed up the process if you do not run a good filter went thru this awhile back before the lower micron filters came out went thru 22 sets till the bosch guy told me about the filter. was right before they were commonly known by dodge people.

Get a good quality filter. Either a Baldwin PF7977 filter or a Fleetguard 7 Micron filter. You can get them from a www.genosgarage.com or you local diesel maintenance store like Fleetpride, etc. Don't go to autozone!!!!!!!!!!!

The top of your fuel tank will have 2 vents on it. (maybe 1) I think they are evaporative emission vents for the gasser version of our trucks. Get some ¼ inch fuel line, attach it to the vent(s) and run the fuel line to a gas fuel filter you mount somewhere under the truck. Just go to the autoparts store and look for some filters with 1/4 inch hose barbs; even a lawnmower filter should work.

Mine had one near the front and one near the back. These vents are in depressions in the top of the fuel tank so dirt and water can get in. There was some recall for some trucks but all they do is put a 6 inch line on the vent.

Have a look for yourself; you won’t even believe they shipped trucks with open vents.

I have had a lot of injector problems since my truck was new. All have been replaced prior to the 20k mile mark. Truck ran pretty bad until they finally replaced all 6 injectors and did a reflash. Pretty happy with it now. Can running the bad injectors in my truck it's first 20k miles have damaged another other engine components or shorten life span??? Thanks. PCM

I lost one at 12000

I had an injector go bad as well at 12000 miles, with the truck all stock. Last I heard, 30% of the diesel fuel in the US had failed for quality testing. I should have bookmarked that article so I could post it. I dont think its your mods. Also, my injector was on national backorder, so you are not alone in your problems. My guess is, all diesels are having more problems, but that is just a guess.
